I have seen a four barrelled gun which I am considering buying but I don't have any idea of its value and neither does the owner. To further complicate matters the gun is in Africa and I'm in Australia.

It has double 16ga over 8x57R with a .22LR barrel in the middle. It appears Ferlach made and has the standard Ferlach game scenes. It is a box lock, hammerless with Greener cross bolt and side safety, bluing is about 50% and it is quite rattley - off face with a lot of lateral movement. It has a carrier for 8x57R and 22LR.

Any hints about what its value is?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

aussie,

You describe the classic Vierling, 16x16/8x57R with a .22 LR under the rib.

You need to convince the owner it is practically worthless.....

Big Grin

The Off-Face issue can be fixed but it wil be expensive. Yes, here in the Fatherland they are pretty pricey.

Does anyone have any ideas about a price - I really don't want to get "a good deal" if it's unfair. The owner has a game ranch in Zim and has seen the neighbouring property siezed by the government and given to "war vets". He needs the money to resettle in RSA.

I'd like to buy t6he gun but fear it's out of my price range.

Regards,

mike

AussieMike, I remember seeing a gun similar to the one you describe (in perfect condition, though) at Mialls Gunshop here in Vic a while ago. Beautiful example of the gunmakers art, and quite out of my price range at $27,500 AUD. From memory 16g/16g/22 Hornet (but marked as the European designation) and 7x65R.
Beautiful. Pity that, short of winning lotto, I will never get to hunt with one.

Cheers, Dave.

don't be afraid to make him an offer you feel is fair.

CONDITION is what determines most of the value

worn, ratty, off face and in africa - he'll be lucky to get usd $2,500 for it.

chadicks in texas has a double rifle drilling - 8 x 57 over 20 at usd $3,500 - asking price. no, it's not a vierling but it is in good shape.

don't compare this tired soldier to some museum quality piece.... it needs tlc

See Drilling Hotline or

Bob Jones Guns

While not exactly what you have, several drillings listed for comparison. Don't see too many Ferlach though.

AM,

The two vierlings on Bob Jones guns are at or just under US$10K. However, you are talking Ferlach guns, and in need of some serious work. I believe you can, in conscience, offer US$5,000 and organize to get them home to one of your serious Oz gun fundi for the needed work.
