I'm thinking about having some mounts installed on my drilling. What would a "setup" cost ("ball park" figure)in "claw" or "pivot" provided I had my own scope? Who in the U.S. would any of you recommend? Thanks, Mags

JJ Perodeau at Champlins has installed claw mounts on my drilling and on my double rifle.

Excellent work.

Cost around $1000.00/$1200.00.

I use Herbert Walhmut at G.S.I..He has done 9 sets of claw mt's and one set of Bock pivit mounts for me.
Having been full circle I'd choose the EAW pivit mounts that I have had done in Germany by other gun makers.

Personally, i prefer my claw mts to any others i have used. They are fast, and always come back to zero...

I trust my scope/mts 100% to be sighted back in every time i mount it..

jack huntington of jrh advanced gunsmithing in california can do claw mounts for about $800.00 total.

his labor etc is $500 - my mount set is about $300

you need to know exactly what scope you want to use and check the eye relief before the work is started.

That is a great price! A new set of AKAH claw mounts in the white cost about $460.00, last I checked. Did Huntington mount claws on existing bases, or did he have to start from scratch? He's working too cheap, IMO. I know the fine tuning that goes into getting them just right.

My gunsmith says 600 € for claw mounts. But there are cheaper possibilities, a weaver or picatinny adapter for the claw bases. So you can mount your scope on an weaver rail.

Do you have the flat German style bases on your Drilling now?

Do you have a solid rib where you want the bases to go?

If you have either there are some inexpensive ways to mount rings.

I made a set of rings from scratch once to match the rounded tapered dovetail bases on my Krieghof drilling. It was a beast of a job as they had a bunch of mating surfaces & a half round cross bolt that slipped into the center groove just as they tightened up. Came out great though, except for one thing. I had grabbed a piece of stainless steel stock (416) for one of them and didn't realize it till I took them out of the bluing tanks
And that was the last mounts I ever made or wanted to make for a drilling.
You could probably get a "bargain" set up using some 7/16 dovetail with stop(s) (dovetailed into the rib) that use the Talley style (old Kimber type) QD rings. Or you can go the high dollar route that some have gone here. I've always prefered open sights on mine and rarely used the scopes even when I had them.

Mickey - I have the solid rib where both are "grooved" for (guessing here) "claw mounts".
I have "pencil in hand" for your solution (and by-the-way, thanks in advance)
Brayhaven - I don't have the skill or the patience to attempt to make my own as you did, so any solution will have to be pretty simple.
