I have a combo gun i have to get a fair appraisal on. It's a German made Hebsacker 20ga O/U sidelock (greener crossbolt) with an extra 20ga over 222 rem both barrels are serial #'d to the gun. Rifle/shotgun set has flip-up rear sight with rifle sight in front w/ full rib. Overall very fine engraving and well-made gun. The buttstock has the european style swell on the comb, although not too pronounced. Any idea what the fair market value might be?

Matt,

It could vary vastly, many thousands of dollars worth. Without detailed photos I sure wouldn't have a clue.

Being 20ga, it will be worth a premium.

Try these pictures. The stock finish is a little worn under the cheekpiece, metalwork is near 95% or better, all around pretty clean, just old and has sat in the case for many years (20?).

Wild guess...

$2,500.00-$2,800.00 in today's domestic market.

I feel it is actually worth more, but getting more is another thing.

It is very nice, for sure! Cool Cool

I think they were produced by Antonio Zoli for Hebsacker of Schwab Hall, Germany. At least that's the info I've found on the web.

I thought so ... they look very much like the Zoli sideplated BBF model.

My thoughts, too. This isn't a German made gun, and there are a lot of similarities to the Zolis. They are very good shotguns, IMO.

$2,500 to $3,000 is prob right ball park but could well be lower - very much depends on where you are. Have a look at some of the auction sights. That it has two pairs of barrels is a plus, but that it has no scope or scope mountings and is .222 is a minus. Deer type calibres plus good scope mountings -claws etc probably add desirability. I picked up a Hambrusch of Ferlach built combo from an auction three years ago and paid £1,000 for it. Pristine condition with Zeiss in a clawmount. Out of interest asked Peter Hambrusch what it would cost to have the same built today - he quoted €15,000.

Those Italian built combos are retailing new at the c€2,000 sort of level but very much depends on grade etc.

OK, I have the same make of weapon, a ZOLI made for Hebsacker, you will find a "bow and arrow" mark either on the barrels or the action end inside.

Mine is 12ga over 7x57R. It has interchangable chokes, not sure that this was not done later, and will handle either rimmed or un-rimmed rounds. (There is a little "thing-y" that clicks into the grove on unrimmed rounds, it works, but I only use rimmed rounds.)

I had a scope mount put on it by a good smith, the sights are marginal at best, my eyes function best with a scope. Firing pin broke, had that fixed, very hard metal for firing pins so watch it!

I've killed deer, both whitetail and mule deer out to 300yds with rifle and at closer range with slugs, bear and birds(upland and waterfowel) with it. Very accurate with the right bullet/load. LOVES 154gr Hornady SP's and H4350. Marginal with everything else, though Norma factory 156's are good. Interesting point, the smooth-bore shotgun will print 3 shot groups consistantly under 4 inches at 100yds with Brenneke Black Magic 2&3/4" slugs. The groups are only 4 to 6 inches lower than the rifle POI. At 50 yds pretty much same POI.

I paid $2k for it. The mount was $250. Firing pins( grrr ), had extras made so it will never happen again, $275.

This has been an extremely lucky weapon for me: 7x7 mulie buck, 350 lb bear, several shots on birds that can only be ascribed to luck, it brings home the meat.
