Fellas:
Tell me about the 9.3x72R. I have a bunch of reloading supplies for this caliber but know nothing about it. The brass is smaller than the 9.3x74R. I have 4-500 round of the 74R brass but don't have a clue about the 72R.(I noticed Buckstix has this cartridge so I thought I'd ask here).

Educate me and then I will list everything in the classifieds.
Thanks, gents.
Cal

It is an old BP round made for use in drillings and double rifles. Like a low pressure version of the 74. Many German Drillings used it. Actually very common on those drillings with paper thin barrel walls and combined with 16 ga barrels makes for a very light gun. And most European hunters didn't need the power of the 74 anyway. I had a JP Sauer side hammer that I used for deer, hog, and squirrel hunting when I was at Ft Stewart. I once shot at a squirrel with the 9.3 barrel. Selector was in the wrong place. Missed it.
Power about like a 35 Rem.

The 9,3x72R (with several irritating minor variations in case shape) was the most popular of the various straight case German cartridges that grew out of the older .360 2-1/4" BPE British round dating from the 1870s. The 9,3x72R was very widely used and is still available as factory ammo from Sellier and Bellot and perhaps even Norma. I know for sure that Norma unprimed brass was available until a couple of years ago, maybe still is.

Smokeless factory loads usually give a 193 gr flat point bullet between 2000-2200 fps; great for short range deer and the boar in your back yard.

Most of the 9,3x72R barrels I have personally measured have a groove diameter of about .360" and work great with the .358" 200 gr RN bullets designed for the .35 Remington.

Dixon's "European Sporting Cartridges" Vol I has several pages committed to this round and its brethren. What would you like to know?

Thanks all. Shows how little I know about some gun stuff. I have a few new and fired brass, several bags of cast and jacketed bullets, and dies for sale. I will put it in a package and post it on the classifieds with a photo.
Interesting little cartridge.

Cal, if you have dies for 9,3x72R you are going to part with, please let me know, I'll probably buy them if they're in decent shape.

Cal,

I have a JP Sauer side lock that I still hunt with in 9.3x72. I simplify it. I just buy Sellier &Bellot factory ammo, and it shoots perfect. Makes it simple.

JP Sauer Drilling 12x12x9.3x72
David Murray Scottish Hammer 12 Bore
Alex Henry 500/450 Double Rifle
Steyr Classic Mannlicher Fullstock 6.5x55
Steyr Classic Mannlicher Fullstock .30-06
Walther PPQ H2 9mm
Walther PPS M2
Cogswell & Harrison Hammer 12 Bore Damascus
And Too Many More

Yes, I do. No rifles in that cartridge I can find in Alaska. No interest at the gun shows. I head to a show this weekend in a few hours. Will try them again.

No worries. If you need anything I have PM me as they are not going anywhere. Nothing in AK in that caliber. Any double rifle brass or dies you don't kneed I'm open to trade.
Cheers.
