I have been on vacation with my daughter for the month of January and just went into my favorite toy store on my return to Green Valley. Murphy's Guns and Gunsmithing in Tucson (520)881-7074 was just booking a nice Drilling he just got in. It is a WWII bring back. Still had heavy grease in the action and the original RWS 8x57R cartridges in the butt trap that were probably in it when it was liberated. It's made by Munchler and is a 16x16/8x57R. It has the original claw bases but no rings or scope. Overall the gun is very nice although the toe of the buttstock is chipped off. I didn't inspect it very closely just observed it in Murphy's hands but he said it APPEARED on first glance to be unfired. The action is a very nicely engraved Greener scalloped rear action with side clips. Greener side safety and front trigger (for rifle barrel) is set. Trigger guard is horn in perfect shape. If any one is interested they should contact Murphy at the above number and he can give a more detailed description. He removed the forearm and the finish appeared good under the wood and no apparent rust anywhere. The toe would have to be repaired but any GOOD stockmaker should be able to easily do that. Don't know if the bore is .318 or .323 and imagine the 16 bore is short chamber. Should be a good buy for someone wanting a very usable drilling. He offered it to me for what I thought to be a give-away price and so would imagine it to be very reasonablely priced. He is a personal friend so I may be very biased but I have never known him to be dishonest in pricing or describing a firearm in the almost 30 years of our friendship. You can be confident in your dealings with him.

Is it 8X57R or JR? Big difference.

As I said I don't know if it's a .318 or .323. I didn't look at it that close. I'm sure the info on the flats would indicate but I didn't look at them. I have found in my experience it's more accurate to slug the bore. Murphy would be glad to tell you I'm sure.

Zimbabwe,

Thank you for the heads-up. After talking to Murphys Gun & Gunsmithing, the funds are on the way.
