Combo gun with extra barrels

Does anyone currently import into the US a combo gun I could get with extra barrels? I possibly may come into a little extra $$ soon and I was thinking that one gun with a set of double rifle barrels (30/06 or ?) and a set of double shotgun barrels (12 or 20 ga.)would be handy. If that is not practical, what should I look for in a used drilling? I would like to keep the price under 6 or 7K

Valmet combination guns are available with a wide range of double rifle, OU Shotgun and combination. Very serviceable but a bit heavy.

Most German & Austrian manufacturers make what you want, Merkel, Krieghoff, Blaser, to name a few, and some Italian and French makers do too.
Your price point might be a problem, but Italy's FAIR (Rizzini) makes the Safari model with double rifle barrels and a optional set of 20 ga. barrels in your price range. I have handled the rifle, it appears well made but I do not know how well they shoot. I have no idea who imports to the USA, but it would not be a problem to meet your needs in Canada.

There are some Browning Continental sets floating around on Guns America, Cabelas, etc. fairly regularly. They may be worth your consideration.

The Valmet guns are very serviceable but I think there might be a boat oar in the gun's pedigree.

I would give Dale Nygaard a call and talk about options. For the money you are willing to spend, he might be able to find something for you across the pond. he is frequently in Europe and has great connections. He helped me find a couple of guns and with some patience, I think you could get exactly what you want.

In my experience you never have success trying to do this. A gun built as a rifle won't have the right stock configuration for wing shooting and one built as a shotgun won't be ideal as a rifle. But if you insist on doing it, set the gun up as a shotgun and add rifle barrels. At least you have sights to line up for the rifle. I used a Valmet 412 for years as an O/U shotgun and I would occasionally hunt big game with a set of 9.3X74R rifle barrels on that frame. The stock was too low for the rifle sights and I just muddled through. I finally got a separate action with high comb stock for the rifle and essentially created two guns that are better suited for their intended purpose. I believe that Chapuis is now marketing a two-barrel set of some kind if you have your heart set on it.

I had a Valmet and that is what sparked my interest in combo guns. I agree with JonP, mine shot great but it felt like a fence post. I took it to Argentina and it cetainly served its purpose. I sold it to someone who loved it more than I did.

I love the Franz Sodia combo I have now. Vol717 brings up an interesting point that does bother some people. Be patient and handle a few of them before you lay your money down. There are a lot of them out there in the price range you mentioned.

+1. I respectfully disagree with Vol717. I have several shotguns with double barrel rifle or rifle/shotgun extra barrel sets. They are highly accurate and more than comfortable and serviceable to shoot in either configuration. Combo barrels aren't intended to be 300 yard sub MOA guns...they are intended as close quarter guns for the most part where rifle/slug or rifle/buckshot are effective. It should be obvious that optimal comb height, etc will not be possible...but at 50-100 yds it shouldn't be too severe a problem.

For $6-7 grand, it's going to be hard to find a really fine gun with two sets of barrels. The really good ones are hard to come by and generally real expensive. James Wayne has a Merkel 160 double rifle and shotgun two barrel set that is fabulous, but it's priced at $14,000.

For the money you want to spend, I'd definitely go with a drilling. Rifle is good out to 200 yards and possible beyond if you find a 8x57 or .30-06, and I prefer the 12 gauge barrels choked cyl/IC or something thereabouts where it is effective with slugs, buckshot, and bird shot.

The only type of firearm I will never be without is a drilling. I can do everything with a drilling, and they are the perfect survivalist tool as well.

One gun pretty much does it all, and you can find a magnificent piece for 5-7 thousand.

Check out the drilling Luv2safari has for sale in the classifieds. Really nice .30-06 12 gauge barrels and claw mounted scope. Pretty good price for that set-up.

The wife and I both have Sauer drillings just like the one Luv2safari is selling.

It is my wifes favorite hunting gun.
It is one of my favorites as I have several "favorites".

It handles like a fine SxS shotgun for wing shooting and the 30/06 barrel is very accurate.
Our guns have a scope in claw mounts too.

You will have to look long and hard to find a better overall combo gun than a Sauer 3000.

I have a couple of Blaser drillings/double rifle drillings and a combo gun as well.

The Blasers do not handle as well for wing shooting as does the Sauer 3000.

However their rifle barrels shoot like a Sniper Rifle. The double rifle drillings shoot groups as good, even better than most bolt rifles.

They use the excellent factory Blaser Scope mount, and the red dot mounts made for the Blasers.

Also let me say that I do a lot of hunting with combo guns. And by a Combo Gun I mean a gun that has rifle and shotgun barrels on the reciever at the same time.

I hunt with double rifle and double barreled shotguns also, but I find that having a shotgun AND a rifle in my hands at the SAME time has proven to be a most useful hunting gun for me.
