Gentlemen, We have a fair amount of experience loading for the 8x57mm and find it to be an effective cartridge for 99% of our hunting. Recently noticed a rifle chambered for the 8x58R and am hoping someone can provide info as to specifics regarding the cartridge. Would imagine the "R" stands for rimmed. Your assistance in this matter is most appreciated. Best Wishes

The 8x58R is the Danish Krag cartridge, think of a 45-70 (its really a hair longer) necked down to 8mm. Yes, its rimmed. Ken DRSS, PP Chapter Life NRA Life SCI Life DSC

I assume this will be another 8x58R, quite often found in German combination guns: rimmed, conical case. Cases can be formed from the 9,3x72R, .318 bullets to be used. Reloading data can be found in the Dynamit Nobel (or RWS) handbook: max. 575 m/s with a 12,7 g bullet. This is similar to the 8x57R/360, far below 8x57IR ballistics. Fuhrmann

If it is the combination gun 8X58 chambering, it is a real wimp. The 8X58 military round has some oomph, however.

Gentlemen, Yes, this is on a Combo Gun. Emailed the dealer for additional information but have not heard anything back as yet. Best Wishes
