Hope some can help me.

I know of some of the larger makers, like Johann Fanzoj and Just. But, I am sure there are still some more "unknown" makers there, smaller, that are making guns on order.

Anyone know of them? Interesting to find out just how the gun making in Austria are today.

I don't know enough about current gun makers in Austria but it has always seemed that prices in Austria are 10-20% higher than in Suhl. After visiting a number of shops in Germany, I would probaly got to A W Wolf in Suhl www.jagdwaffen-wolf.de/ They seemed to want the business, be competitively priced and they can produce anything you want. They were very easy folks to talk with...worth a consideration.

I'm sure you will find excellent quality in Austria...but, again, maybe someone else can comment on the current makers.

There are still as many Ferlach gun makers as ever. The old men retire but there children often take over the business as is the case with the likes of Hambrush, Fanzoj,Etc.

Also many new gunmakers open up shop in Ferlach and throughout Austria after completeing the bucksenmacker school in Ferlach.
Anywhere you are in Austria your not far from a top end gunmaker.

Fuchs in Inssbruck, Guggi in Graz, Hoffer in Leoben, Another gunmaker Fuchs in Ferlach,Hauptmann, the list just go's on.

A trip to some of the gunshops in Austria dose revial some decent prices, When I visited Ferlach I was shopping for a kipplaufbuchse. The shops that I visited at that time (1996)Quoted me avarage price of $13,000.00 for what I wanted. I later found the same thing in a gunshop in Graz for $7,500.00 I suspect it was bult as a spec rifle and the price had been lowered to get it to sell.

Have a look on www.egun.de and you will find there a
lot of Ferlach guns, custom made with beautful engravings for
affordable prices.

On my personal "would like to have" list is the
gunmaker Retz in Suhl, for he makes guns with the
nimrod system

and TJF in Suhl, for a Waldläufer - Drilling alsways was one of my dreams

When I visited, the father was nearing retirement and the son had taken over a lot of the work. The work is sensational and for the quality, in my limited experience I would have to say its worth it. They quoted me a price of about 7000Eu for a custom boxlock drilling with 20/70 over 7x57R, game scene engraved (I brought the design with me), 25" barrels, AAA wood (I picked the blank), separate cocking for the rifle barrel, safety on the wrist, cocking indicators, set trigger....another requirement was that the gun be as light as possible for small game hunting, standard checkering and satin oil finish. This was 4 years ago.

VERY nice people.....very helpful with all the planning issues. I have noticed over the years that his guns command top prices in the used marketplace.

Also Gruetzi..du bist in der Schweetz!!!

No, I decided to keep an eye out in the used market and bought a Dural drilling which I'm having work done on now. Took 4 years to find what I wanted...a later alloy frame with 25 inch barrels and the features I wanted.
