Lets see how good your drilling or combo shoots... Here's how the drillings i have hunted with and shot the most shoot... First, this is a Keieghoff 16-16- 30-06 i ordered from the Krieghoff factory in the 80's... I sent in a 4x Zeiss to be mounted in claw mounts, and also a Krieghoff short insert bbl. to be fitted. They did a great job for me... Here's how it shoots with my favorite 30 cal. bullet, the 200 grain Nosler partition... And here's a 200 yard target... But, the real love of my life drilling is, my old Krieghoff Semper 16-16 - 8x57jrs... Most of you are probably sick of hearing me talk about it, but i've never posted any targets from it, even though some have asked to see some... I use nothing but 200 grain Nosler partitions in this gun too... (although i have worked up some "light" 150 grain small game loads for it) Check out this 200 yard group! Also, i have put a target up at 35 yards to check how everything is "regulated". This is my "back up" yardage for slugs on bears, and it's also about the range i shoot at small game with the insert bbl... I fired the rifle, then right and left slugs looking down the rib, then slideing in the insert bbl., fired it also using the rib for sighting. Anyway, here's the target... I'm VERY happy with how these drillings shoot, and especially the Semper, i have harvested a HUGE amount of big game using this drilling and the above loads... So, anyone else have any targets to show??? DM | ||

I hear people say drillings aren't all that accurate, but that hasn't been my experience in 35 years of playing with them & working on them. Most will shoot with off the shelf hunting rifles and some will stay with custom guns. Accuracy is usually exagerated on most peoples guns as you all know. We used to have a standard question in rifle compettion when someone bragged about group size. We'd ask is that was a bench group or a case group Most of the drillings I'v shot will hold a 2" group and some would shoot an inch most of the time. I have a Kerner boxlock 20 ga/6.5X58R Sauer that shoots most groups under an inch with anything you load in it. And that's with a 2 3/4X scope. I've also found that bore condition has little to do with accuracy. I've seen bores that were very rough and shot very tight groups. So don't let a pitted bore keep you from buying a drilling, if the price is right. As long as the rifleing is strong.
