Picked it up from a coworker for pennies as he said years ago his dad broke it and it sat ever since. It looks like there is a neck broke off in the chamber as the extractor is also broken. There is no markings on the ring or barrel. Here is the catch. He has no idea what cal. It's not the original barrel and the bolt face is flat. I don't have a way to cast it or slug the barrel. Anyway... anyone recognize this? JAG

The flat on the bottom of the bolt makes it a 93. Original chambering was 7x57. I'm sure you could find somebody up there to do a chamber cast, 'bout the only sure way find out what the chambering is.

I think I found a way to have it cast. Kind of rough but maybe I can save it. JAG

It is a flat bottom 93. However the bolt has been modified for a rimmed cartridge. you can see the left lug has been milled flat to the bolt face and the bolt face has been opened up considerably. The extractor has been modified also from the original configuration. chamber cast will verify.

You can cast a chamber with Cerrosafe from Brownells, or melted sulpher. I just thought of a joke; Rescuing a 93 Spanish Mauser is like rescuing a liberal from drowning; you have not accomplished anything worthwhile.

you could make a really nifty 30-30 AI, unless the bolt face has been milled waaaaaaaaay oversize. I missed out on a very clean M54 in 30 WCF at a gun show six months ago. $500.

Makes one wonder what feat of bravery someone might have done to accomplish that?? AK-47 The only Communist Idea that Liberals don't like.

I'd suspect, because of the flatted bolt face, that this has possibly been converted to 7mm Remington Magnum? But a chamber cast is the best way to go as others say. Or....try the opinion of a GOOD gunsmith that specialises in sporting rifles based on old Mausers. IMHO sometimes things are just, well, past it. Sorry!

I was given a 93 Mauser that had been bubba sporterized. the owner said it would not hit a 8x11 at 50 yards, I shot it sure enough a 8x11 claim at 50 was true out of 5 shots I had on key hole on paper. I looked it over and found the last 2 inch's of barrel was worn so no rifling was left. I cut it off and crowned it. The sporter stock was so badly bedded that the web behind the recoil lug and trigger guard was cracked loose. The area behind the tang had cracked also. So I started by glassing in the broken parts and place a couple of internal cross bolts. I then glassed the rear cracks and then put I a reinforcing bolt. I then glass bedded the hole action and 3 inches of the barrel free floating the rest. I took all the sights off and used a Ashley scout scope mount and a 2x Leuopld scout scope. I know the scope is worth a lot more then the rifle. I also reshaped the stock for a slim trim woods rifle. I shoot a 139gr Hornaday at 2450 She well place 3 shots into the same hole at 50 yards now. A fun project and a good rough rifle to lend to some one with out worry. I then sot it and it put them into one hole at 50 yards with

This success story from p dog shooter deserves a re-visit. It's not about a pre-98 or a bubbagun, it's more about tackling what seems to be the impossible. Thanks. Life itself is a gift. Live it up if you can.
