Art S.Whelen, 338/06, and 9.3x62 come to mind and should be easy to do.

sambar02Thanks for the suggestions my eldest boy has a beautiful 35 whelen built on a p14 action though you wouldnt think it if you saw it.looks more like an early winchester.will get the young bloke to try it see if he can handle it,originaly had a 338 fed made for him but liked it to much myself..lol..Was also thinking a 358 norma or 416 taylor for myself

mad_jack02Take the P14 and re barrel it to a 416 Taylor. And on the 1917 maybe a 375 Whelen IMP?

Palladin8Why not do another 303Epps?
16 December 2011, 02:55
sambar02well i have another 303 epps so was thinking on something new to play with, also thinking of doing a 303/35 epps on a smle#4 for hunting over the hounds in the thick stuff, getting 30/40 brass over here is near impossible and dont see it being much different than the 303 epps.

sambar02looks like the 3006 is about to become a 338/06 .thanks for the suggestions

PhatmanI know there was a 35 Epps, I'm guessing there was a 338 Epps.
I think a rebore will fix you right up.

sambar02unfortunately getting barrels rebored at a reasonable price is very hard here in Oz,unless any body out there knows different

45ottop14 to a 300wm. you can take a mag box from a 1917 and fit it in the stock. rebarrel the 06 into a .25-06 that will reduce recoil a bit.

jeffeossop14 back to 303 original, M17 to 7x74, 30-06, or 35 whelen..
303, loaded with barnes or taipan bullets, good moderate loads, should swat em good.

A new 30-06 barrel on the 1917 and a 350 REM. on the 1914.

It is hard for me to believe that a lad 6'2' can only weigh 100 pounds

Fal GruntWhen I graduated high school I was 6' 1" and 125 pounds. I empathize with him!
I recently bought a 7x64 and love it. Recoil is firm but not bad. A long push more than anything.
9.3x62 of course is a classic.
Jon, there are .303 barrels out there, I do not know where you are, but your best bet is probably to have a custom contour done.
