...mine. Big Grin

just clowning around.

I acquired some 174 grn .311 Sierra MKs so I thought I would try to see how accurate I could get it to shoot and couldn't be happier.

1st test was with Varget.

lower right group is best but is only estimated at 2486 fps and you can see an increase of .4 grains opens the group way up and then is settles back down @ 46 plus grains with an estimated velocity of 2613.

2nd test was with H4350

Again upper charge weights were best. I am settling on 54.2 grains of H4350 for an estimated 2724 fps.

I have found six different loads for this rifle that are sub moa Smiler

I am one happy Mosin Nagant owner. BTW its a Russian 91/30 made in 1932.

Since you didn't mention the range, I will just assume you were shooting at ten yards.
Nice groups.

Good groups Mike. I know you have been colluding with the Russian for quite some time. Wink

Mike, I have come close to that with a very nice example of an SMLE No. 4 Mk. I with the micrometer rear and a minty barrel shooting the Sierra 174-grain .311 in handloads.
I beat it one time with an open-sighted Sako M39 using my own .312 bullets swaged in Corbin dies, but range conditions and light were perfect.
While I know some find the Mosin 91/30s very good shooters, I was never able to coax bragging accuracy out of any of the several that passed through my hands back in the golden age of surplus.
Those are some very fine targets!

I had some very clean Swedish Mausers in the past that I thought were extremely accurate, so much so I became a huge fan of the 6.5mm's from then on.

I have a Swiss 7.5mm K-31 that shoots very well. It has gotten me three wild hogs and two gold medals at Camp Perry. I have yet to find a surplus bolt rifle with a better trigger than the K-31.

That's,kind of a "modified mil-surp"........

The best accuracy I have gotten from mil-surps is the K-31 followed very closely by the 1903A3.

Well...is that won't we do with them. Tune them up a bit? Stock trigger etc?

Still the original action and barrel.

Although I killed several bucks with that rifle in the various stages of completion over the course of 3 years, that buck was the 1st after I completed the rust bluing.

He was a bruiser dressing out at 190#. I took him on November 29th of 2014. If I had shot him a month earlier he would have probably weighed another 30#.

The bullet took him almost straight on above the brisket from 100yds. It took off the top of the heart, destroyed the lungs and pulverized about 1/2 of the liver. He still managed to turn and run about 30 yds.

Nope, would you sell it if it was yours?

BTW; that 3 shot group was the 1st 3 round on paper with that particular load.

I did some "load development" over the chronograph on the back deck seeking lightly compressed loads with the lowest standard deviation.

Needless to say, there was no further load development. I did eventually switch to Rl-17 and Speer 200 gr Hotcors with similar results albeit at a much lower cost.

180 gr Ballistic tips didn't group as tight and were far less efficient as far as Me and long range trajectory. They still gave what most would call "acceptable" hunting accuracy.

If it were mine, I would never sell it. it is a beauty, a classic, and hunting machine.

But it can't hurt to ask. Big Grin

Im a fan of the 8x57 and 7x57, both about equal in hunting results, and that's not light praise!! I can duplicate the 30-06 with either one almost are within 100 FPS with the 175 gr. Nosler at 2750 FPS in a long throated gun...Oh btw, I am also a big time fan for the 30-06, Its a push either way.

I have a few K-31's and find them quite accurate, One has a Furter rear sight, a Swiss aftermarket adjustable real leaf sight, another a scope, a Swiss products double apeature, a MoJo ect.

The one that outshines them all is a 96/11 Schmidt Rubin again with a Furter rear sight. I shot my best open sight group with that combo, and probably will never do that good again 1 1/8" at 100 hards for a five shot group. I actually outshot a friend that day who was using a Weatherby accumark 300 Win Mag with a big Zeiss scope.
