Just wondering if anyone/company made an M1 carbine shoot accurately and for that matter one that was converted to 5.7 Johnson?

Hip

P.S. The best I could do with my .30 cal. was about 2" at 50 yds.

I believe they were designed for minute of torso at that range.

My carbine was about 2" moa. Buddy built a 5.7 from a receiver and barrel about 2 years ago. Basic brass was available. Macon mannlicher stock (we bought 2)

Custom scope mount and rear sight was mounted on the barrel through a hole in the handguard.

There was a company years ago that advertised accurizing Ruger Mini 14s to shoot 1" or less groups which were noted for poor accuracy.

Was wondering if that could be or was done with an M1 carbine.

CMP accurizing recommendations:

Sounds like with a good bore it is doable.

Any worthwhile change to the 30 carbine cartridge would be worthwhile. If the action could handle it, even the 7.62 X 39.

Korea Marines and the 101st ABN during the winter of 44 at Bastogne, showed that the 30 carbine was a very ineffective weapon in cold winter weather. The mechanism was sluggish and recoil springs were stretched just to get them to work.
The carbine 30 cal was designed as a stopgap measure to be used as a pistol replacement.
It never had real stopping power, but in severe cold its penetration suffered against Chinese and
NORK troops with extra padded uniforms. Multiple shots were necessary. Not an acceptable weapon.
Paratroopers and Marines preferred an M-1, BAR or 1911. They worked in extreme below zero cold weather like at Chosin Reservoir in 1950.

I can't speak to a recalibered M1 carbine, but I have accurized my stock M1s to an acceptable standard. No real revelations or techniques. Stripped down to pieces and parts and meticulously cleaned and lubricated. The stock channel got a light to heavy sanding and then a skim of coat of bedding followed by re-sanding. (This was more to preserve and seal than bed anything). Barrels and bore were stripped and cleaned until they were as bright as possible. After 20 slow fired rounds to re season the barrel it shot an acceptable 10 shots group in a 4 inch circle at 125 meters. I would estimate 3 MOA.

Seems like it needs a disclaimer...Your results may vary!
