This was a battlefield pick up that the father of my brother-in-law gave me. It was a folding bayonet Carcano. first the sights were removed. The rear sight had to be turned off on the lath. The remaining seam was welded over and th whole barrel was machined and polished, the front sight was soldered on and the rear was drilled and tapped. The chamber had to be lapped as it was closed to tight at welding.The hang down magaxine- trigger was replaced by a Mauser mod. 93 or 95 bottom metal. This took a little machining and fitting.The rails took a little modification to get good feeding.  This is the sporterized original stock.There was a lot of fitting, inletting and finishing. Yours truely did all the work and it took between 5 and 7 years.Just a fun project for a young man.  Before I could get reloadable brass I modified Military brass to accept boxer primers. I also machined and formed 30-40 and British (boxer primed)brass by removing the rims , grooving the heads and forming. Vapodog, you continue to amaze. That is the ONLY nice Carcano that I have ever seen. And it is very nice indeed. I'm being perfectly serious here...every other Carcano that I have laid eyes (or hands) on was (at best) ridden hard and put away wet | |||

Thanks for the kind words....however this Carcano is the sole work and brainchild of Roger....he posts as bartsche And FWIW I agree...it's a very good Carcano....if there is such a thing. What VD isaying is correct. Roger ,however, came to a fork in the road and the project goes on but is changeing some. Through the years the Carcano has kind of lead me to designing a similar wildcat but based on the .470" dia. head size (.308,30-06 etc.). As this is written the intent is to have VD build a 6.5mmx51.8mm. This would be a .260 with a 26.5degree shoulder with a neck close to .345" long and a seriously deep throat to acommodate long for caliber cup and core bullets. The thinking was " Hey you got a lot of kicks with a couple Carcanos  but now it is time to move on and not try to relive the past." I don't know anyone that makes them. you can buy the proper size bullets from hornady and i would like to have a carcano that was somewhat accurate just to play with, they are short and handy, a friend pinched a nerve in the palm of his hand working the saftey on one If your gonna be dumb, you gotta be tuff. | |||

Being a 6.5 lover, I'm a closet Carcano fan. Some of them are very nicely machined, others not so much. I found a Carcano action I forgot I had in my storage building and thought I would use it for a project with several different options on it that I am afraid to practice on a good action. Is it possible to solder or pin an enbloc clip into the magazine and load the cartridges in it like a Mauser magazine? | |||

Another option is to make a single shot out of it . I did this with another Carcano by rechambering it to 6.5 X 55 and dumping the magazine metal. A load ramp was fashioned and welded in and an el cheapo trigger guard was screwed on the stock which was inleted and finished.
