Hello All,
I'm looking into buying my first( Big Grin) mossin-nagant 1891/30. I was wondering if there was anything I should watch out or look out for.
Thank you
-Josh

Have seen some lately with almost new barrels. That , to me, is of greatest importance if you plan to shoot it, Roll Eyesroger

Thanks

Yes I do plan on shooting it. I was just wondering if if there were anything bad about a particular make or serial batch, or of some were better thann others, ect. I know the Finnish ones are supposedly better but I have yet to run across any in my local guns stores limited inventory.
Thanks
-Josh

i got one from Big5 for like 90$, all matching serials, non-hex receiver

mine shoots really high at 100yards (like 8"+), but is good in terms of the horizontal. when i go to Angeles shooting range (in CA), i shoot out to 700yards with iron sights pretty well

All the wans at the local gun store are 1bout $120 and don't look or feel all that great. Maybe I'll just wait until another gun show comes around. I could get one off the internet but its $10-$20 to ship and the $30 to receive at the dealers around here. That would moot any discount...
Thanks
-Josh

Find one with a good bore, that is shiny grooves at the muzzle.

Then weld the bolt, add a scope mount, glass the action, put some tape under the rear of the sear, pillar bed the stock.

Push 180 gr Sierra bullets at 2800 fps.
Great hunting rifle, with the original military sling.

If anyone gives you grief about the ugliness, challenge them to a shooting match, title for title. They will chicken out, as they have more to loose.
