Cartridges!--seriously, the basics are Norma brass, CCI or Win LRM primers, VV N-550 under Triple Shocks, Accubonds, NBT's and Scirroco's. I've even tried a few with partitions and fail safes.

The 140 Accubond is a great bullet in this round IME.

Good Shooting!

Here is some loading data. Hagel said that every rifle is an individual.

Data

The 140 Ballistic Tip would not exit a very large buck at 193 yds but it died. Next I shot one with the 140 Accubond and it exited after hitting the spine. That deer died too.

Since then I have been using the 7mm WSM as I am more interested in the Berger VLD bullets for deer on the farm. Berger says that they will have VLD's out for the .277" soon.

I wish all my .270's were 7mm's.

I've had best luck with RL-22 and 140gr Accubonds. IIRC it was 66.0grs but double check the load data. The load shot 1/2 MOA or better in 3 different 270 WSM's......................................DJ

How about the 160 gr. Nosler Partition in the 270WSM?? Thinking of using it for Leopard in Namibia and anything else that pops up while it's in my hands. I'll have a 9.3 X 74R for most everything but the Leopard, but you never know? Any load suggestions etc. for the 160's would be appreciated. The rifle is an HS Precision Light Weight Pro Hunter that shoots legite 3/8 inch group with factory 140 gr. Accubonds. Thanks.

ls,
that 160 partition would work great, if you reload nosler manual#5 likes reloader-19 at max load and their most accurate powder tested.60.5 grains for 2975 fps at83% load density. they used a wiseman 24 inch barrel winchester case ,winchester WLRM primer and a 1-10 twist 4 groove barrel. their 2nd best powder was aa3100 at max61.0 grains for 2932 at 84% load density. again this info is for noslers 160 grain partition bullet in the 270wsm,as usual cautions apply work up to max and BEE safe!!!
wishing you a great hunt and post us some pix''s .regards Smiler

I think I'd be buying several boxes of that 140gr Accubond factory ammo with the same lot number and go hunting. Leopards are usually well under 300lbs and thin skinned, a 140 Accubond in the vitals should kill it just as quick as about anything else..............................DJ

djpaintles - I have at least 10 boxes of that 140 gr Accubond on hand, so have not considered reloading until now. The thought on the 160 partition was the fact something larger like zebra, eland or kudu might pop up while the 270 WSM was in hand thus the 160 option. Thanks jjmp for the input on the 160 NP loads. I'll work a few up and see if the little HS likes the combination. As for Leopard, the shot will most likely be in the 60 to 90 meter range I am told so a 1 inch group would be satisfactory.

My 270WSM's love 140gr Accubonds. My load development was using Winchester brass and my hunting loads are using Winchester Supreme nickel plated. I use Federal 215 primers with Retumbo powder. Best group is .217"

My 270 WSM shoots the 140 gr. AB very well with max. load of IMR-4350; best group to date is .310".

I reload for my friend's 270 WSM. I use RL 22, Federal match primers and 150gr NBT.

It shoots well, but I'm trying to convince him to use a tougher bullet. He shot a button buck (on my doe tag no less) at 90 yards and it grenaded inside.

He's now convinced this is the greatest thing since sliced bread and wants to use it for moose and bear.

I'm trying to get him to try triple shocks, failsafes or PT's but there seems to be no use. I'm trying to warn him of possible lost game. I tell him constantly, if it exploded on a 75# deer, it'll be useless on an adult moose or bear. Looks like he's going to find out the hard way.
