I have a heavier weight 22" Douglas XX barrel in chrome moly which is for a Savage 110. Had it for a couple years but may not be able to finally assemble. This is primed with a heat resistant primer lightly fogged and then would be re-fogged with a proper camo pattern.

SSK Industries developed this family of rounds and others which are not designed for quiet shooting. The ballistics of the .338 in my version are ideally used with 225-250gr or heavier bullets. These can develop a short or mid range wallop for a short cartridge.

I am not going to be able to finish most of my delusional projects (of which there are many) due to health issues and general overload. If anyone does some research on this round it may turn out to fit a niche in your hunting schemes. I may list the bbl and Redding forming dies in classifieds if someone sees merit in the round.

I think if you use a 180, at say under 200 yds it's a thumper, would build it or a 35 cal/7BR case if wanting a woods rifle w/minimal bark/bite on your end, but a thump on a deer w/good killing power, w/o great loss of meat due to warp speed magnum rounds.

I like the BR case in many bores.

BUT, we have the .338 Winchester and how can you beat it for a practical round..A 210 Nosler at 3005 FPS or a 300 gr. Woodleigh at 2500 FPS, thats about as good as it gets and won't tear up your bullets on game..and best of all you buy ammo anywhere in the world if you look hard enough and its not a wildcat.

On the other hand, if you're into Walter Mitty stuff and are a wannabe assassin or some such, the line of SSK Industries bewlets and Class III guns does give you (in the .338/7BR example) the chance to load a 300 gr. round into your silenced wonder weapon. Actually the .221 Fireball version with a .338 300 gr. round is the Quiet Death special if I recall. I do have 250's but the thought of shooting anything that big or bigger at paper targets without being able to retrieve lead makes me blanche.

This barrel has to be finally throated and Z-Hat, who inherited the chambering reamer I rented from some guy who then sent it to Douglas (as they didn't have that size), agreed to send me a throat reamer for final touch-up. I may try to fit this to a 300 gr. bullet as if you're going to make something special you may as well go special all the way.

Incidentally, I asked SSK how short they made suppressed barrels for this general caliber and they said they could go down to 6". I'm not sure I interpreted the answer correctly but they can make machine guns in super short form firing 300 gr. ammo probably on the .221 fireball case. Obviously this is a very dedicated special purpose up-close-and-personal-gotta be-sure-the-first-time item.

I should screw the barrel into the receiver and drop on the unfinished wood stock and put up a pic.
