Does anyone here have any experience with the 358 STA? if so, what are your opinions of it? I have the itch for a powerful 35 caliber rifle. I was thinking of a rifle built on a stainless Mark X action with a Pac-Nor barrel in a nice walnut stock.

Give it a try, you'll love it. It flattens elk like nothing i've ever seen [Big Grin]

CraigP -- I shoot a .358 STA. In my opinion it is as awesome .358 caliber chambering as you can find. I have two rifles, a Winchester Model 70 Stainless from the Winchester Custom Shop. The second rifle is a custom with a Lilja barrel, built on a Winchester Model 70 action. The Lilja came with a beautiful thumbhole stock that didn't fit me, therefore I had an H. S. Precision stock fitted. They both shoot with one hole accuracy when I do my part. The Lilja barrel will shoot all size bullets approx. 100 fps faster than the Winchester. Both will shoot a 270 gr. North Fork bullet over 3000 fps, with the Lilja pushing it as fast as 3124 fps. I get 3200 plus out of 225 gr. bullets and 3100 plus out of 250 gr. bullets. Besides the North Forks I have shot Barnes X, Nosler Partitions, Swift A-frame, and Sierra bullets. Thus far the North Forks are the most accurate. That 270 grainer is a real thumper, beating the .375 considerably and approaching the .378 Wby figures. Now that the bullet makers are doing a good job on the .358 bullets, this is a real good chambering for use on larger bodied Plains game the world over. In my opinion you are making a good choice with the STA, I certainly am having a good time with mine, hunting with it in Colorado, getting it ready for Alaska and Africa someday. Good shooting. A-square used to load 358 STA, I don't know if they still do. You might check with Quality Cartridge, if you can get to their web site. - Dan

Superior Ammo in Sturgis South Dakota will load .358 STA with a number of bullets. I purchased my brass from them, it was very good. Good shooting. [Wink]
