I was at a pawn shop and a guy brought in a IIRC FN Mauser action or similar with markings on the barrel I believe made in Sweden, Quality bluing and open sights which appeared to be factory installed, No scope holes, plain simple stock.

Does anyone know who Mfg this rifle? It appeared to be a factory sporting rifle, and was in 30-06, the caliber markings (cannot recall exactly) may have said xxxxx Springfield, but it looked as if it was made in the 40's-60's or so.

The pawn owner offered to 'loan' him $60 on it, I wanted to puke, wish I could have caught the owner before he walked in, he acted as if he was planning on getting it out, the owner of the store advised they sell them for around a hundred dollars or so, I would like to see more like that one if so!

Drill tap, trigger job, perhaps a bolt handle and a barrel in 338-06 would have made a NICE rifle for me.

It may have been a Husqvarna. They built very nice rifles on FN commercials (if the one you are looking at is a true 98 pattern). The stocks were often birch and clunky looking but the metal work was great. There are many around in 30-06 and 9.3x62 and have very trim barrels. Do a quick search on the forums for "Husqvarna FN" and you'll get plenty of info. If you could get it for less than 300 you might think about it....

During the 40's they also made rifles on 96 mausers (Gustav's?) which may have been open sited only, not sure which you saw.

I owned 3 '96's, this was a '98 pattern, I believe you are right, it had great polish/bluing, I was really impressed. IF the owner never redeemed it, the pawn shop stole the gun, to think of some of the deals that have gone through those shops over the years.

Thanks
