RC, I really like the way your cam out, did you do a dark base first, or just let the factory black be there to show through the needles--or what did you use for the pattern.

I like the looks of it a lot---your landscape light is not straight though, and throws off the composition of your photo.... Roll Eyes

PS, not to hijack ES thread, but is that an Atlas V-8 bipod on your rig RC?

Thanks ES and Fish!

Yeah, I read a few sites about painting your own stock. All of them said to lay down the light colors first, but that didn't make sense to me. I live in NM. I've seen a lot of stocks that blend in better if they are lighter in color, so I layed down stripes of OD green and Brown the full length of the stock first, then stenciled over that with Coyote and some other light color I can't recall right now. I just clipped some Sage type brush from my yard (chamisa), clamped it in between two pieces of plywood with a clamp, held it up to the stock and painted.

I removed the stainless barrel and action, taped off the scope, trigger and left the bolt in the action and sprayed it with flat black.

I'm a believer in light camo. ES's will work good.

The bipod is a quick detach rapid pivot Stoney Point. I use it for hunting and also have the taller ones for sitting in a chair to call coyotes.

You guys made some great looking stocks.

Here are a couple of mine.

Even simple black and gray don't look to bad

The wife needed a little color on hers

I've used epoxy based paints as well

As usual just my $.02

rcmauglia -

Which colors of the Aluma Hyde did you use?

I'm going to paint the stock of a Tikka T3 black syn stock as soon as some other work is finished.

All the rifles here look great and gives me the confidence to try it myself....

Very nice, great idea! Is everyone using pine needles for masking?

There is a lot of satisfaction in "customizing" your stock or rifle and it is not that hard.

and as some of the above show, they turn out much more striking than anything you can buy from the factories....

plus you can make exactly what you want.. at a cheap price no less..

even tho me and Mr Camuglia don't agree on much, I compliment the job he did on his A Bolt's Stock, very eye catching, making that rig into a real nice looking rifle..

If you are worried about the scope and don't want to paint, try taking an old mesh headnet -- I'm sure you all have some -- lace an elastic band, or even an old rubber band, through it. Cover the outside of the scope.

I went to the hobby store and picked up plastic pine branches. They have a wire core so I can shape them the way I want. I would bend them over and around the stock to allow the color to contine.
