hard luck.35/284 ?
Has anyone tried this conversion and what were your results. I found one on a gunauction made on a blr with dies and everything but now I can't find. It it worth the trouble ? I shoot a blr .358 and have been very happy with the results.

Dr. LouI have no personal experience with the 35-284, but I have a few friends that really like the cartridge. Although I prefer the 358 Win, if I had another short action I would probably go with the 350 Rem mag. Both will require opening the feed rails a bit.

jeffeossodon't bother.. it's MAX 150fps faster than your 358, due to mag limitation on the blr.
35x384, 350rem, and 35whelen... identical ballistics

I looked at it, and came to the same conclusion as Jeffeosso. Neat, but not enough neat to go through the motions. JMO, Dutch.

Paul HA buddy up here built one on a savage 99 that had originally been a 284 win. He said it falls a bit shy of the whelen, only gets 250's @ 2400 vs 2500 in the whelen.
If I found a good deal on one and it was well done, I'd jump on it. I wouldn't go to the trouble of building one though.

260remguyWhen I was going through my 284 based wildcat phase I built a 35-284 around a Savage 99CD. It worked OK, but not enough better than a 358 to make me want to keep it. I never could get any bullets over 225 grain to feed really well. I have also tried the 338-284 and like that quite a bit better, particularly since Nosler makes a 210 grain Partition for heavier game and a 210 grain BT for lighter game. After doing several 284 based wildcats I have decided that the 25-284, 6.5-284, and 338-284 work the best for me, while the 30-284, 35-284, and 375-284 didn't do enough to earn their keep. The 6-284 and 45-284 are more specialized, with the 6-284 being a good way to recycle a good shooting 243 barrel that is showing throat wear.
