Hi to all. Very informative site. New member but allready having a good time. I have a very good friend that asked me to get some pricing on some of his firearms. One of them is a mod.-70 pre 64. it has a manliker stock which thru me for a loop because I here that they never made this specific mod w/ it. I did find out it is a pre 64. Itonly has 5 digits. The rifle is in very good shape! My friend has health problems and age working against him so he decided to give up the hunting. Any idea on value? Thanks for the help. Dan enjoy.

This is almost certainly a re-stocked rifle and it's value is impossible to determine without a close, meticulous examination by a serious rifle collector-trader. It may be a piece by a famous gunmaker, in which case it could have substantial value, or, it could be a restock with a Bishop "mannlicher style" stock from the '50s, done by Joe's Guns and Garage; this type of "custom" rifle is not worth much. If, it has any maker's markings on it, post them and this would help to determine a rough value, as would a picture.

Thanks for your input. my friend w/ the mod 70 - 30-06 lives 3 hours away from me. But I will be picking it up in a few weeks. and also thanks for the correct spelling of mannlicher stock. I just recently found out about his selling of his guns. so I don't have much to go on. I thought i'd throw it out there anyways. Appreaciate everything. I'll have more info at a later date. thanks once again. Dan

If a CLAW FEED Model 70 has a anti-bind gas check in the extractor retainer ring it is a new style claw feed. If the anti-bind shelf is on the bolt it is a Pre-64. If it is push feed it is a aberration that shouldn't be considered a Model 70 (even though it might shoot very well).......DJ

If you are not familair with Mod.70s it would be very easy to assume one of the new old pre 64s (control feed) with the anti bind is a old pre 64, so be sure...Any good gunsmith can tell you right off... As to the Manlicher stock, it is probably not original, but Winchester did a lot of things particularly for big companies on contract...It is possible that its original but not likely...I have never seen one...I have seen post 64 Manlichers...
