I have a 300 savage 99 in mint condition and am wondering what it is worth. it hasn't been tapped or drilled. No sling mounts either. It has steel butt plate and orignal sights.Bought it for 50 bucks twenty years ago.(shot my biggest buck with it,10pts,200lbs).Plan on leaving it original,my brush buster.

You would get more than 50 bucks for it. I can tell you that. Geography seems to have alot to do with value on 99's. I see guys from out west posting that they are getting these model 99's in great shape for $200. Here in Western PA, even the gray rats start in the high $300 range and go up from there. It just depends on demand in your area. I have a model 99eg in .300 Savage in excellent condition and I wouldn't take a $1000 for it. On the open market its not worth that even here, but supply ain't going up and there aren't a whole lot of rifles out there I consider to be better than a model 99 Savage, especially in such a versatile, classic caliber.

I agree that region has a great deal to do with the 99. I know of at least 6 for sale at $300 to $375 and they have been sitting for some time. The 250/3000 comes and goes regularly for $600 and up as quickly as they arrive. I would love one in 358 and regularly, use mine in 300, which I got on the classifieds. Frank

Are you thinking about selling it? Or do you just want to get an idea of it's value?

I have a mod99 receiver ser#171797 and I believe that it is a take down model. The receiver threads are interrupted. The barrel would have to be slid in and twisted 90deg. to lockup. What can anybody tell me about it and does it have value. Butch

It was made about 1915 and may or may not shoot well. Some do very well but those that get loose may print patterns instead of groups. Years ago people rusted the action together to make them more rigid. I have one that has interruped threads that does OK and one that doesn't (or didn't until it was rebarreled). In the early '30's the barrel was changed to full threads which gave more support. As to value, I'm with everybody else that the region of the country will make a lot of diference. I had a nce 308 offered to me in Salem,Or. for $200. The same gun would have brought $400 in Fla. The Blue Book is a reasonable guide but prices vary a lot from place to place.

Depending on condition, but they have recently taken a jump in price,at least in the Gunlist and thats a good indicator of things to come... Today they are bringing a good deal more, so I would sit and watch, get a copy of the gunlist and take a look..It will soon be worth $400 to $600, with mint guns bringing a lot more than that.... That is my prediction and today its worth in excess of $350. according to that list...
