| I have two 300 wbys, one is a std SS MkV, the other is a MkV ultralite. The ultralite is the gun I hunt with, Mexico, Alaska or Africa, it goes with me. Very pleased.
A model 70 would be a good choice also in a 300 wby. Just depends on what you want.
MkV's feed slicker than snot in my opinion and are hell for stout actions. But aint no flys on a mdl 70 either. Would be a hard choice for me, I like them both and either one will carry the mail, the win will save you some money if thats an issue. |

| Doublegun, I've had my Sako 75 for about 4 years I guess. It's the Hunter Stainless model. That is, it has a stainless steel barreled action set in a walnut stock. I think it looks really nice. If they don't list it any more I suppose they quit making them in this cartridge.
If you really want one you might have a chance of talking me out of mine. Send me a PM if you have any interest in discussing it. |

| Ive got a 300Wby in a Rem-Sendero-Syn-SST-Fluted- I also have the 7Stw in the Wby Accumark--No complaints with the Accumark, alittle heaiver and a more trust-worthy gun. |

| Ok, well what will I gain/lose if I go up to a 338 Win Mag? My only other HP rifle is a 30-06.
Thanks. |

| Personally I think the 338 Winchester is the way to go, nothing wrong with a 300 Weatherby. God knows I have one. But the 338 has be my go to for things like Elk since 1980. If I was going to do a 300. I just go and have a rifle made the way I want on an action I want. I sort of really like Ruger M-77 MK II. Yea to have to do a trigger, but it makes up for it because I like the scope mounting on Rugers. Easy eought to rebarrel one to 300 Weatherby or what have you. Or you could do a Number #1. |

| If you already have a 30-06, then definitely go for the 338 Win Mag. I think the recoil on the 338 is less than the 300 Weatherby, except for 250 grain bullets. Others will disagree, but in the guns I shot, the recoil of my 338 is less. The 30-06 will do almost everything that a 300 mag will do. I said almost, it isn't a 300 mag. But, the 338 is definitely a step above your 30-06. I switched about 3 years ago, and love my 338. I use my 270 for small stuff, and the 338 for the bigger stuff. Though the 338 kills so quick, and so clean, that I'm probably just going to use my 2 338's for everything. You can push a 180 grain bullet to 3150 fps, and a 250 grain bullet to 2700 fps. Lots of bullet choices, and easy to load for. My favorite loads are the 210 Nosler at 2900 fps, and the 225 Nosler at 2800 fps. Both are accurate in my guns.
I'm a big fan of the Model 70, and the 338 Win Mag. Always a hole in, and a hole out. |

| I have a Sauer 202 Deluxe in .300 Weatherby Mag which I really like. I can't seem to get it to shoot under an inch at 100 yards but I took it to the local 200 yard range and did some really nice groups at about 1.5" My Sauer 202 page I took my last pig with it in July, dropped it in it's tracks at about 120 yards and a blacktail deer in September, also dropped at the shot at about 50 yards, using 180gr Nosler Partitions. |
