I was in a gun store the other day and saw a used Win M70 "Sharp Shooter" in 300 Win for sale. This rifle had a blued action, SS barrel and a green fiberglass stock that was very nice, maybe a McMillan? This is the hunting rifle and not the newer tactical "sharp shooter". Anyone have any experience with these rifles or additional info? What are these rifles worth?

I have a "Custom Sporting SharpShooter" 7mmSTW built for the USRAC/Winchester Custom Shop by H-S Precision.

It shoots absurdly well; the test target was 0.1326" for three shots, but the best I've been able to do is 0.220".

Check it out more closely; if it's a 'Custom Sporting' model, buy it.

That is what the 300 Win looked like.

Didn't those rifles have a Schneider Barrel instead of the factory and if memory works think the price was somewhere around 1500/1800.

I am aware of two versions of these. The "Custom Classic Sporting Sharpshooter" had as someone pointed out, a Schneider barrel and a McMillan stock. This is the version for sale in the GunsAmerica ad, I believe. The "Custom Classic Sporting Sharpshooter II" was the one built by HS Precision for the Winchester Custom Shop, and had a blued Classic action screwed onto an HS Precision match grade SS barrel, with an HS Precision stock (bedding block and all). I am fortunate to own one these in the second version.

Yes, the Schneider/McMillan version was made before the HS Precision built model. As I recall, both had blued actions, but it is possible they could have been built either way. My HS Precision rifle has the blued action with a matte finish. After I obtained this rifle, I called Winchester's Custom Shop about getting one with a stainless action, and they assured me they would have one built with a stainless action if I wanted. Unfortunately, I never did follow up on this. But, others may have had them built with stainless actions, so they may exist. Regards.

My Sharpshooter is a mirror image to yours! 7mmSTW and all, however, mine is a right-handed model! Hardy Har!

This is my Custom Sporting Sharpshooter in 300 WM. I am working a load up for it now. The muzzle brake is a real wonder to behold. That was put on by a local gunsmith... it looks like it grew on the barrel.

I haven't nailed down the load that it likes...yet. But it sure is fun to shoot.

That is the rifle I am talking about (without brake and scope of course!) . The gun shop is asking $1295 but I think it has been on their rack a while. If it's a shooter and can be had for much less I will be tempted. Will check it out further the next trip to the shop.
