MarknLinda, I don't have info on SAKO blowups, but Id surely be interested in knowing how you blew up your SAKO, if you don't mind. Any pictures of the rifle after the explosion?? Thanks. L.W.

It would be interesting to hear how your Sako blew up. Having spent some 2 weeks at the Sako factory and having the run of the place I find it hard to understand how one blows up. I have seen them run three 30% proof loads through rifle after rifle while I was there and none came unglued. They next take them next door to the underground firing range and shoot them for group. I have seen the wrong rounds put in them and fired by owners and the owners are still in one piece. What happened to yours?

marknlinda, are you twins? Siamese? I presume you hunt together, which of you takes the high road? Do you carry two Sakos? If not, which of you shoots and who is the spotter? Who does the talkin' and who wears the pants? Are you from California?

Are you lawyer(s) looking to dredge up some cases. If so, wouldn't saying you blew up a sako, if you didn't, be unethical? (I know, using the word ethical and lawyer in the same sentence is pretty funny) As well as actionable by Sako? Can you post some pix of your blown up Sako? Maybe you need to get in touch with Jack Belk.

Hey Mims, Are you still the grand poo bah of the Sako collector's society? I was rummaging through the file cabinet last week looking for an old Sako owner's manual. When I got to the Sako file I noticed several little printed referrals to the collector's society or association or whatever. Anyway they listed you as the MFWIC (mo fo what's in charge). Didn't see anything about the TuffPack collector's association. I would qualify for that also. JCN Seriously, I would like to join the Sako society if it is still extant. I can't keep all the various models straight in my rapidly aging head.

Blue, Go play in the street. I have been in contact with Mark. I did a background check. He is a firefighter, and is not an attorney. Look at these pictures, and tell me if they look eerily familiar. I for one am not going to run out and buy a FinnLight (or FinnLite, whatever the heck it is called). Actually I couldn't if I wanted to. They have all been pulled from the shelves. Mark was very badly injured. The details are not for me to divulge, but think about how you hold a rifle, and what might happen if it blew apart on you. Just like the pictures that were posted on this forum a few weeks ago, the barrel is neatly split into three pieces. The cartridge case has opened into a tri leaflet pattern that corresponds to the barrel pattern. The Receiver split along the seam from the investment casting. The fired cartridge was one with mild pressure, well within SAAMI/CIP specifications. The bore was not plugged. If anyone knows a good forensic metallurgist please send me some contact info. This is not going to be a class action bullshit thing. It is important to know what is causing these rifles to fail in this pattern. If you own a FinnLite, please do not shoot it. When Mark is up for visitors I'll let those guys who live close to him know so you can stop on by. JCN Here are those pictures from the first blow up we saw:

I just called the Sako/Tikka recall number (1-800-503-8869) and my 2 are not included in the recall. The lady was very professional and it took less than a minute total for her to answer, look up the numbers, and tell me that my rifles were all right.

JCN Much to my regret the Sako Collectors Assn. that Jim Lutes from Whitewater, KS and I co-founded in 1982 is now dormant. It got to the point where none of the members would send in any info for the newsletter. I had spouted all I knew and Jim had done what he had done...it was up to the other members to share their knowledge but....We got all kind of limp dick excuses why there was no info to share like, "I can't write." "I don't know much." etc. etc. The assn. just ran out of gas. The ball is still there for someone to pick up and run with. I would be happy to be a member once again but I (like others in the past) just want to be an Indian and not a Chief next time. I sure met some nice people and made some good friends during those years ....not to mention two trips to Finland. The major end of my collection went to one man in CT. I kept something under 20 pcs. to play with. I still shoot the hell out of several today...esp. a couple of 222 Mags.

Thanks Harry. There's so much we could do if we didn't have to make a living. Some cretin stole my .222 Rem from my dad's house while I was screwing off overseas in the military. What a neat little rifle. JCN
