My "old" customer made 338winmag rifle has got a new face lift.
A gunsmith not so far from where I live build this rifle for me in 1997, and this rifle
is based on a 700 BDL, its a High Tech butt and it was a 338wm Douglas barrel.
Now I have buy a new barrel (Border) in caliber .264winmag.
I still have my old 338winmag barrel, and I have opportunity switch between these two barrels.

I was at riflerange this weekend for testing my "new" rifle.
I shot only few bullet, since its so important to clean barrel well after 5 shot until I have shoot about 75-100 shot.
Gunsmith told me if I do this, my barrel will live longer.

Since my scope has been off, I have to adjust it to hit the center.

After this 4 shot I clean my bore

Then I try shooting 5 bullet in sitting position without any support under my rifle.
Distance to target was 110 yards.

So far I like my "new" rifle and my new caliber, but I know .264winmag is a moody caliber,
and I have to test many different type of bullet, grains of powder and type of powder before
I have the rigth one.
I think I will try my 264winmag on moose and deer hunting this season, and see how it goes.
Haven't test any hunting bullet so far, but since its a high speed rifle, I will try to use Swift A-Frame 140 grains.

Good looking rifle. Simple, clean, and straightforward. That's the way I like them. And it shoots great too!

I've always liked the 264 Win Mag. It was my first centerfire rifle. My dad bought it for me "a few" years ago.

Now that you're shooting the 264 WM, does this mean you're going to change your forum name too?? Big Grin

That is a really nice looking rifle. I have always like the 264, it is neat to have a caliber that not everyone has. Seems like it would be the ultimate deer and antelope caliber. Not sure what kind of animals you have in Norway, but it would be a great rifle for the western USA.

If I were you I'd treat the bore with Microlon "Gun Juice". It combines withe the bore steel and protects against erosion.
Read the review in "Gun Tests" if you doubt it.
I've used it in 3 "high intensity"cartridges and it tightens the groups and makes cleaning easier.

Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Overdoing.
