Hello fellas, Back up with a new name after a rest (formerly jsl3170) and am doing some research but would like to hear from any users: inherited a 550 9.3 from my later FIL and, as a LH shooter, can't use it so am investigating a micky handle for the rifle so the wife will have a good rifle for her use. mcmillan says their cz medium stock is a copy of their interarms stock with a different print for the bottom of the receiver and the bottom metal. i've seen the specs and like that it has cast in it but am curious as to who has used one and what your impressions are, please. thanks, Jeff

I've got one and it's a great stock, one of my favorites. It's slim and handy. I had the LOP cut to 13.5", which is the same length I had been using for Mausers. But the stock fit is a little short for me with that length, about 1/2". I thought at first that I had ruined it by requesting 13.5", but finally decided that it's ok and is quicker to get on my shoulder that way, and doesnt put the scope too close. It's just a matter of getting used to it, and now I regard it as my handiest carbine. If you like McMillan stocks already, I'm sure you won't be dissappointed. Mine was inletted for a drop in fit, and was easy to glass bed. thanks, Kabluewy. when you say carbine what length is the barrel; 20"? the one we have is 23.6 and with a 12.5" LOP which is what she requires I am thinking the barrel needs to be about 21-22" or so to balance. I was thinking an all-up weight of about 8.5lbs would be just about perfect to make it portable while making recoil manageable.

The barrel on my rifle is 20". I had it shortened from the std 23.5". The rifle I'm talking about has a custom in 8x57, which obviously has less recoil that a 9.3x62. Initially, I had it in a glass bedded factory walnut stock, but bought a McMillan stock off their specials list. When it came and I had it all assembled, then I began to think in terms of something different, since the McMillan stock made the rifle feel significantly different compared to the factory stocks. In part, the McMillan is slimer. Also, it seems quicker because the LOP is about 3/8" shorter than my other stocks, and about an inch shorter than the factory walnut American style CZ 550 stocks. I made a mistake when ordering the LOP for the McMillan stock, and it came in shorter than expected. I wasn't about to send it back, and it caused me to rethink the assembly. I didn't have a CZ 550 in "carbine" length, so I decided to have the barrel cut back to 20". Now the whole thing feels balanced to me. It seems that the notion of "balance" is a subjective thingy. Some say balance is a 23 - 24" barrel, and others say shorter. My rifle with the 20" barrel feels and balances properly to me. BTW, does this sound right? I just measured the muzzle diameter of the factory 23.5 barrel and got .600. Can anyone confirm their factory barrel if they have one?
