Does anyone have one of Ruger's KM77RBZ MKII Stainless Steel Sporters? This would be the laminated stock moodel like the following:

I'm thinking about picking one up in 300 or 338 for this fall.

I had a SS Ruger heavy barrel laminated stock that was a really nice rifle. The SS/laminate comination is a real weather beater. Only thing I would mention is with the calibers you mention the lightweight rifle will have fairly stout recoil.

Well, I'm looking for "minute-of-elk" accuracy, not a bench rest shooter. I'll probably go with 300, and that would be right between my 270 and 375. I do like nice triggers, I must add, to be honest.

My Tikka did pretty well in Colorado last year, as far as the weather was concerned, but I think I want something with a little more "thump" in it for those elk. They seem a little harder to put down than deer Wink

I've got a couple of the M77 MKII's, though I'm a little too cheap to buy the laminate stock. Both are stainless/synthetic. As for recoil, it's perceived differently by different people. I just put a pre-fit Pachmayr recoil pad on my S/S in .338 Win Mag.

My Tikka T3 Lite in 300 WM will surely shoot minute of Elk. So far with everything I have fed it. Taking it on a Brown Bear hunt in 6 days on the Alaska Peninsula, 200 grain A-Frames kill anything inside 300 yards guaranteed. It shoots 3 shots under an inch at 200 yards and 5 under 2" at 200 yards.

I have one in .338 win mag and it will shoot 3 225 gr woodleigh protected points into an 1"at 100 yards. This is my third ruger and I like this one. I have had thetrigger worked to a crisp 3 pounds and have had it bedded and floated. It has a 3-9 leupold on it.

I have one in 270.

Action has been bedded, barrel floated, and I put a Timney trigger on it.

It has a Leupold VariX - 11 3-9x40 scope, and will reliably put 5 shots into less than an inch at 100yds.

Love it!! Big Grin

I have a new 338WM Sporter. Out of the box it shoots just about everything under 1.5 MOA for 3-5 shot groups. The trigger broke between 4.5 - 5lbs and had a small amount of creep. This was fairly consistent w/ my Rugers of late. It is not that difficult to tune the factory trigger and it is very easy to replace w/ a Timney.

I own about 8 of them in various calibers....

They feel good and fit nicely to a shooter...

I have had to do trigger jobs on them... I did them myself... a little time consuming but worth the effort...

As a handloader, I have been able to tailor some fairly decent loads to each rifle...

I am not happy with a 1.5 inch group at 100 yds...

Each Ruger I have will better that....

The Model 70s are still my favorite commerical American made rifle... but the Rugers have been a good alternative, with some nice features....

My favorites are the Stainless with the Laminate Stocks.... Davidson's has some available with Black/Grey Laminate stocks as a special exclusive and I like those the best.....

I have this rifle in left hand in 30/06. Its been a major piece of shit. It's been to ruger twice now and they've had it since october of 2005. Its greatest consistancy is its ability to misfire just about anything you feed it.

I have that rifle in 30-06, Mounted a good 3x9 mil-dot scope on it and had just a little stock work done to it. Now it fits me very well. Shoots great, sub MOA with out changing from my old hunting load. Actually my second most accurate rifle. M77/22 is more acurate!!!

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Ditto on trigger work needed, also best to have gunsmith smooth the action.

Sledder, are located in the states or in Oz?

Getting firearms into Oz is a real PITA...

500 dollars for a known POS rifle is way to much money. 250 would be more like Its like trying to sell a car and telling the buyer the engine is hatched and then asking top dollar.

I have a lefty with the gray laminate stock in 7 mm Rem Mag. It had pillars installed, been glass bedded, free floated, a trigger job and a new crown.

It is singularly the most difficult gun that I've ever had to get to shoot consistently. I tried about a dozen bullets and half a dozen powders before I found the 140 grain TSX and H4831SC combo that would group less than MOA consistently. This was the last bullet I was going to try before I rebarreled it.

I have one of the old "boat paddle" stocks in 338 Mag and other than being butt ugly it's a fine rifle. Shoots very well and every time where I point it.

Of all the rifles I've owned, and I have some nice ones, I've killed more game with a Ruger 77, in one caliber or another, than any other rifle. I like all of them, have some nice M70 Classic Featherweights, Tikkas, etc, but the Rugers get the most use. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ruger had some problems with the M77's accuracy when they were farming out barrel production, but since they've started making their own, they are some of the best shooting factory barrels of all the manufacturers. I've been able to get all of mine to shoot some amazing groups. I know lots of folks will flame anyone who says a Ruger shoots good, but I've had "lots" of them and only had a couple that wouldn't shoot well with some tweaking. I do gripe sometimes about the finish on the receivers, they're often ground crooked, and I think they need to pay more attention to the lines of the receiver, as no other manufacturer makes such sloppy looking guns. But, all in all, they're great guns, and that's a small gripe. I just pick ones that are well done.
