Sometime back I asked sort of the same question on a 338WM thread here on the Med. Bore. I don't remember who posted but they said they used the 215 gr. Sierras on deer and (if I recall correctly) said they came apart. Dead deer though but didn't trust them. Do a search.

It'll leave my .338 OKH Mag at about 3000 fps, so probably 2250 to 2500, maybe as low as 2100 fps as we will be hunting sage brush country in WY. No big bull permit, just a cow.

I tested one on some water jugs out of the Federal at 2500+ fps and got zero expansion. Sierra says they are tough but a bullet should expand at 2500 fps. Someone from 24hour campfire drilled it in dry stack magazines with a 338-06. Again, zero expansion. I personally wouldn't trust them on game. There are too many other good 338 bullets.

"I" have not been a fan of their bullets(except target shooting) since I had problems of no expansion with the 7mm and 30cal bullets. I would suggest a Nosler 210gr Partition that I know will work great. My next choice would be a Hornady Interbond, Swift A-Frame or Scirocco

This is a real switch. These are the first reports I have ever heard of Sierra GKs NOT expanding. My own personal experience has been the exact opposite X2.

I read somewhere that the 215 grain Sierras, have the same thick jacket they use on their 250 grain 338 bullets, and the jacket of the 225 Pro Hunter is a thinner one, made to expand at lower velocities. Not sure how factual this is, but it could be so.

Just askin'.
The link posted above tests a variety of 338 bullets in wet newspaper but the 215 Gameking was not included.
I tested some 338 bullets at 338 Federal velocities in water jugs.

BL. I did not test the 215 gr Sierra 338 cal bullet but years ago I did test a number of Sierrs, Speer and Hornady bullets in a recovery box packed full with damp newspaper. While they were accurate I had couple 270 cal and 30 cal bullets that did NOT mushroom at all. They looked exactly like the bullet shown above, lead tip gone and rifling marks. When they did open up the jacket would rupture quite violently and often lose the lead core. The Hornadys mushroomed the most consistantly, even at lower velocity and occasionally lost their lead core. The Speer hot core bullets mushroomed consistantly but they did not open up quite as much as the Hornadys (expansion was more controlled). These bullets were all shot from a 270 and a 30-06 with normal loads and some reduced loads. The reason for this testing was I had lost a nice Whitetail buck that I had hit with a 130 gr Sierra bullet from a 270. Very little blood for tracking. I had thought it acted like the bullet never opened up.Never know for sure as I never found the deer. After my testing I switched to 130 gr Hornadys for deer in my 270 and have had zero problems since then. Since then I test a bullet in damp newspaer before I use it on game. I have an old Ruger Mk 1 with the tang safety in 338 Win. It has a very long throat and doesn't shoot light bullets very well. Usually shot the 275 gr Speer for moose. It worked great. When Speer quit making them the only other bullet that shot real well was the 250 gr Sierra.I've used that bullet on several moose but have never recovered a bullet. All have been broadside shots that passed thru but the exit holes would indicate some expansion had taken place.
