What I try to say is that for me....the 338 is a big game round in wich I use the bullets mentioned. I use it on Red stag and moose. If I want light bullets and flat trajectory for deer, Id rather pick up a 308 Winchester or a 25-06.

I would like your input on using the 338 dia 180 ballistic tip on deer in the 338 RUM. I have loaded it down to about 3200 fps or about the same as a 338 Win mag. I will be hunting very open country with the long shot the norm. I will most likly be shooting from 250- 400 yards and don't think I will get any shots in closer. Will the 180 hold up at these ranges or will they blow the crap out of a mule deer? I have tried other light bullets in my rifle and the 180 bt is the only one that shoots good. Thanks, Jim the Plumber

Why do you think you need to use a light bullet? Give the 225 AccuBond a try at around the same velocity...it'll shoot flatter, drift less in the wind and likely be more accurate.

Hey Jim you should be fine with them I use then in mine and contrary to popular belief they actually penetrated through most the plains game and deer sized game I have shot with it which are built somewhat sturdier than deer like Zebra, Kudu, Gemsbok, Hartebeest, Wildebeest etc. and on the Kudu and Gemsbok it broke both shoulders while passing thru. Like SteveB said the jackets arethicker and heavier on the bigger BT's I think Saeed has some cutaways somewhere on this board and even he comments on the BT's having thicker Jackets Than some so-called Premium Bullets go figure. Well good luck with what you choose and Happy Hunting. And theyre very accurate Sub Moa groups out to 500 yds...

Gee, I'm going out in the field to kill an animal by "destroying" one of its vital functions, but I don't want a bullet that is "destructive". I've been hunting big game for 40 seasons, but I guess I've still got a lot to learn.
