A 170-gr. bullet at 2,360 fps is well below the 8x57's potential, but it's far from useless. Actually, it's about like a 300 Savage. A student of mine took an 8x57 on her honeymoon and killed several smaller African antelope using Winchester ammo. I don't think she shot anything over about 300 pounds, but she still hunted Africa with it. Hope this helps, Okie John

Cal Sibley, DWM were acquired by RWS and Metalwerken have been closed for more than 50 years - probably with the end of WWII though I am not as well informed as other members undoubtedly are. Good luck with your 8x57 and I hope a lot of people buy this grand old caliber and hunt with it! Good hunting!
