I am not familiar with the Marlin bolt rifles. I have a line on a new one in .270 at a very attractive price.
Does anyone have any input/opinions on the Marlin bolt action rifles. Accuracy, fit/finish, durability??
Thanks for your input.

My XL in 270 was a good hunting shooter out of the box holding 1-1.25 MOA with about 3 different handloads.

Then I tried something I've never been able to load for accuracy; a boat tailed bullet. The 130 gr. Sierra Game King over 57 gr. RL-22 gave me .5-.75 accuracy consistently. Also got MOA and slightly better (about .8-.9) with the 110 gr. Sie Pro Hunter with RL-19 and same POI. Used Varget with the 110 and got every bit as good accuracy but POI about 2 inches higher.

Killed 4 deer and a javelina with it this year; all one shot kills.

The bore is much smoother than my accurate savages and don't copper up as bad. If you want one I would recommend it. Merg

i bought one not long ago..

it is an excellent rough country rifle..light, hard to bang up.. put a cheap scope on mine.. 3 x 9 World Class Tasco on top..

mine is shooting 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups, although I have not shot any redlined loads in it..

for hunting, I'll probably give it a load of 4064, with a 140 grain ballistic tip in the 2400 fps range.. that's all I need in the area we hunt..

when I run down a Savage 223, take off barrel, I am going to put that on there, after rechambering it to 220 Swift.. with a one in 9 twist to shoot 75 and 80 grain A Maxes..

also contemplating a 257 Roberts barrel for it from Midway...and a 7 x 57 barrel...

Thanks for the load input. I have to be honest, I am purchasing a .270 mainly so I have another caliber to reload for.
So I did a little window shopping, and as always, this leads me down different paths. I now have my eye on a Ruger or a Rem 700 CDL SF. I may still buy the Marlin and one of the above, see which one I like the most and unload the other. Either way, I am excited to have another caliber to load for.
