Santa found his way to a CZ 550 American in 7x57 for my wife's stocking. She's pretty excited and can't wait to get working on it.

The usual steps and then a slimmed down stock should have it in her hands by summer to get ready for the season.

Love those guns!

My wife subscribes to the theory of hit 'em right the first time. from a shopping perspective the cz fits the bill perfectly.

I purchased a CZ 550 American chambered in 7x57 last year but haven't taken it to the range yet.

I am thinking about having a little upgrade work performed including the installation of a barrel band sling swivel, NECG iron sights, ebony forend tip, and grip cap. With these upgrades, the 7x57 (for plains game) will pair up well with two of my dangerous game rifles (CZ 550 American's chambered in .404 Jeffery and .416 Rigby).

So did you trade your wife straight for the rifle up or did you have to add something to the deal?

Either way it sounds like a sweet deal.

I say that if you can get a new 7x57 for your wife, take it. You can always use another 7x57.

Eleanor O'Connor did not seem to have any problem using a 7x57.

I always find it curious that when someone posts a comment about getting a certain caliber rifle for a woman or a youth, someone will invariably makes a remark about such a caliber being "Too Much" for the intended recient of the rifle.

I see this has gone off the rails at my bride's expense...

Yeah, imagine that happening here!

Glad you found that gem for your wife. I wanted one myself but they had discontinued them. I did get a 550 in 6.5x55... It shoots great, very accurate and functional, still wish it was a 7x57.

As a consolation prize I did find a M70 fwt in 7x57 and it is pretty sweet, so I'm not suffering too much.

With the stock slimmed down some that will make a sweet rifle for the wife.

Hard not to like the 7x57.

It'd be more versatile in .308.

Not surprising on this forum. Big Grin

The 7x57 needs no justification which I'm sure you already know. My wife had never shot any center fire rifle before when she asked to shoot mine. After three shots she said "that was fun, do you have any more cartridges"?

Hope your wife has fun with hers.

I like the 7X57. As for the 8X57 hitting harder.....W.D.M. Bell seemed to do okay with the 7X57.

I prefer the 7x57 to any of the metric calibers as a rule and it is my all time favorite caliber along with the 30-06...It is the lightest caliber I would shoot an elephant with if I had too and feel moderatly comfortable with.. shocker

going to send the stock to dpcd for some fairy dust magic to see what is under the gorilla glue finish and what it will look like with all non essential wood removed. hopefully a more trim, svelte stock comes out on the other end.

once we get that in place we can change the safety and the bolt handle and scrub the billboard. a front sight and a barrel sling swivel to accompany the back up necg peep sight and we should be pretty much there in time for next summer and then fall.
