Can someone recommend some quality brass and a load for sheep with a 130-140gr bullet. I have a Kelby Kodiak action, Shilen Barrel and Jewell trigger with a McMillan stock. Barel is a number 4 contour with 9" twist.

I never hunted sheep, but the 139 gr SST from Hornady is great whitetail medicine. I load them for several friends that love them. Powder of choice is H1000 & RL22 for STW. The only brass I ever used in STW was Remington

Thanks,
ED

You can do a search for "Brass Quality" topics and find other opinions on brass manufactures.

I recommend Winchester brass to you for the 7mm STW. I think the factory twist is 9.5" however no problem with twist. I like the 140 gr Nosler Spitzer Accubond. I run RL-22 in my 7 STW and get 3400 fps + velocities with 26" tube. I've heard IMR 7828 gives outstanding standard deviation and extreme spread but I haven't tried it yet. I use CCI Magnum Rifle primers.

Good Hunting

I use a real heavy load of RL22 with the 120 and heavy 7828 load with the 140accubond. Both sub .75MOA and print about 1/2 apart at 100yds. My chrono says 3600 for the 120 and 3405 for the 140.

As usual just my $.02

You didn't state the length of your barrel, but I think Win. brass, Fed. 215 primers & H4831 behind a 145 grain Speer btsp is a super sheep round from my 24", 1-9 barrel. The bullet bucks the wind well & is devistating on thin skinned game.

remington brass and winchesterare both very good, reloader-22 is the powder for lite bullets in the stw, odds are you''ll be in bear country also, this is what i''d advise, if your barrel is broken in..... use a 140 grain barnes tripple shock, if not broke in don''t use this bullet,2nd choice would be 140 grain nosler partition,or swifts 140 A-frame, or speers 140 Bear-claw''s 3rd pick would be speers 145 grandslam bullet, last but not least would be the bonded bullets ....nosler accubond, hornady''s interbond, swifts scirocco''s....normal bullets will take any sheep of course, BUT,theres more insurence with a stoughter built bullet, federal 215 magnum primers also, from how you discribe your rifle it should have no problem shooting a fine home brewed reload, i own 2 stw''s my self but shot more 160''s then anything, best of luck on your hunt, longggggggggggg live the STW............... regards jjmp thumb

I have always thought the Winchester brass did me a little better job than Remington. Might just be me. My sheep load would be a 140 gr. Accubond on top of a Fed. 215 and 1 grain of 7828 less than Layne Simpson calls max. This combo gives me just a snad under MOA and insane velocities in my 70 Classic Stainless. The TSX is looking like it may be a more accurate bullet in my gun. I just have not had the time to tweek it out yet.

Personally, I have always used Winchester Brass in my STW. Always worked well, and gave me the accuracy I needed. I did find 2 in a bag of 50 that had blemishes that I didn't use, just because I wasn't sure about the safety.
Winchester Brass
Fed 215 primer
71.7 grains H4831SC
139 grain Hornady SST
Savage 116

Best wishes and long live the STW!!!!
