I know there are a few guys around here who own one. I am curious as to what kind of real velocity you are getting, with factory or handloads. I know the Federal stuff is advertised at 2550 for all bullet options, but an article I read recently about the 370, didn't make the grade. 2400 in the TSX, 2450 in the solid and 2500 with the Partition. I have seen people here say they are getting those numbers with the 9.3x62, but that is also with either out of spec lengths in long magazines, or with above book loads/pressures. I am considering building one. Not that I dislike the 9.3x62 or anything, but hey, whats wrong with a little bit more of a good thing? And no, I don't want the x64, so that is not an option. so far I am getting 2600 fps with the nosler accubond and reloader 15, the load is only 3 grains more than in my 9.3x62. Haven't had much time for load work as I am doing a job out of area. When I have more time will work with 285 partitions. I will be taking it elk hunting next week.. Lynn

For what it is worth, I am getting 2550 with RWS 293gr factory 9.3x64 Brenneke loads.

Thanks guys! Lynn, looking forward to see how your 285's work out. I know a lot of people would just as soon do the x62 for nostaglia or tradition or what ever. But I figure the rifle is SS, going on a synthetic stock. Nostalgia be damned at that point If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Also for what it's worth, not a 9.3x66 but close - Exactly what I got from my 9.3x64 with the same factory ammo. I used some North Fork 286 grain bullets in Africa my last trip with great sucess on PG from 25 to 300 yards. They went through the Chrono also about 2550 as this was the most accurate load I found in my rifle so I didn't feel the need to push them any faster. I'm also getting 2700-2750 with great accuracy in the 9.3x64 using 250 grain Nosler Accubond bullets. ______________________ Guns are like parachutes. Just returned from elk hunting in the sled springs area of eastern Oregon was carring the 370 Sako with 250 gr Nosler ballistic tips when a medium sized 6x6 bull fed out into a meadow at apx 80 yds. One shot took the bottom of the heart blew a 4" hole thru the liver, frags hit and pulped the lungs and the exit wound left no doubt as to whether the bullet had expanded. Some say this bullet is too soft not even suited for deer but this bull might argue that point. Load was 63 grains rl15 fed 210 great combo. Lynn

Just shot my Sako 85 for the first time the other day. 62 gr. of N140 with a 270 Speer/210 primer produced a ragged hole group...didn't chrono it but am very pleased with its accuracy. Vihtavuori manual says max is 61.7 in Sako brass gives 2536 so suspect my load is doing at least that... Used Quality Cartridge's brass...wish Sako cases could be found....

Haven't measured the velocity of mine, but it sure kicks as a mule, and I am not recoil shy.

So you guys are getting 100fps more speed by usesing brass that is "higher then a huchbacks rear end" than I do with the once fired 06 brass that I uses in my 9.3x62? And what about the extra 3-4K more pressure?
