Dropped a whitetail last tuesday and a mule deer last friday with this 7mm using a 160 gr. TSX and both shots were lethal. The deer fell immediately with no sign of movement on the ground.

Wonderful long range mule deer caliber for the sand hills in southern Saskatchewan. Smiler

Both shots at approximately 200 yards.

Clean up on both showed exit damage of about a silver dollar with no explosive damage and no lead shot meat. Found a tiny chip of copper on the whitetail.

Saw 3 cow moose but only had bull tag so no report with this caliber on moose.

Don't doubt the TSX would be complete pass through on a moose as well.

Going to try the caliber out on elk tomorrow. Can shoot both bull or cow in zone 53. Moose are very scarce this year due to tick infestation.

For your kind of shooting, I suppose the 7 Mag. is OK. But I found it to be far too messy on good meat when used on a deer. Even with the Nosler 140-grain Partition. So I switched to a 7X57mm with the same bullets at 300 FPS lower velocity....

Which bullet were you using?

The Partition is going to explode the front lead portion.

The TSX is the bullet to use.

Load the 7 RM down for lighter game such as White tail load it up for Moose .

Remember 100-180grain bullets gives a lot of options velocity extreme or sub normal .

It's a Sound choice for an open country round . Use it myself on several occasions .

Never been disappointed yet .

I use the 140 grain TSX in my 7 Mag because that's the only bullet that my gun likes. It does it's job on antelope and deer but other guns do as well or better.

Frank, I've been playing with the 140 in my rifle. What is your load?

my son uses a 7remmag for everything (deer/elk/hogs), with 160gr partitions. he killed his elk a couple weeks back with one well placed shot. while the barnes bullets may work, i seriously doubt he'll change. good to know we have such a great selection of bullets these days.

The great thing about the TSX is it maintains it's SD w/ a smaller bullet. For deer size game I would drop to a 140gr TSX. I love 160grNPs in my 7mmDakota. I've taken pronghorn w/ it inside 120yds, tight behind the shoulder & had instant drop, silver dollare exit & little bloodshot meat. Same for several other deer size animals. Even on cow size elk, I have yet to recover one.

You get your excessive meat damage when you use a light for calibre bullet at excessive velocity. A good 160gr bullet as a use it for everything bullet works well from white tails to elk.

I agree light bullets for varmint or down load for reduced velocity on small to medium size game .

Use 150-175 ( I also prefer the NP 160 grain ) for Large Mule deer and Elk .

I've dropped over a dozen Bull Elk all inside of 400 yd. with a 7 RM never had to trail or chase

any of them .Mule deer maybe 3 times that number and plains game in Africa .

I simply wait for the right shot and distance if it's not there I'll stalk until it is .

Don't fix what's not broken .Is it the only Rile that will do nearly all NO.

It's just one of several that will .

Not quite a .300 and definitely not a .338, the 7m/m Remington magnum is one of my favorites. Of all the belted short magnums, the 7m/m offers the most to its user without dishing up significant recoil.
Early 7m/m magnums had issues with chambering dimensions, but those that detract from it have not seriously worked with it IMHO. There is a reason why Remington's big 7 did, and Winchester's 264 didn't -it just flat out works.

The 7mag. is truely a great choice for deer. The wide range of bullet weights and choices of bullets availble, also makes it a great choice for a wide variety of game worldwide.I've killed around forty or so deer with the 7mag.using 140-150gr. bullets. It's a flat shooter, hits really hard and gets the job done.

I use 140 accubonds for everything now. Although I have shot elk with 160 gr Accubond and 175 gr part.I think I'll try 120 TSX for deer next year

The 120 TSX may be faster, but it is quite light for wind.

Might be better off shooting the 140 TSX in the 7mm for deer or antelope. Mule deer I was hunting a while ago presented some nice 400-500 yard shots but I decided to get closer having not practiced at that range yet. A 120 grain bullet at this range doesn't fly as well as a 140 or 160.

I haven't tried the 175 TSX in my rifle. I have read numerous places that it is not a very accurate round in the 7mm. mag.

I have decided to just load the 160 TSX and use that for everything.

The exit holes in both my deer were about silver dollars. That is perfect. A 25-06 or 257 Roberts shooting lead bullets is going to make more damage than that so unless you want more speed, don't worry about the 160 TSX destroying your deer. It produces a nice clean wound.

Nice thing about shooting the 160 TSX, is when you want to go for elk or moose, no money spend on powder or bullets, and no need to change hold over. Good to get familiar with the ballistics of a particular round and shoot it well.

Never had any luck hunting moose or elk with the 7mm but going to try and shoot an antlerless whitetail before season closes on Dec. 6th.

Really like punching through the lungs on these deer with this rifle. Very effective.

I use a 7mm for hunting in the open prairies here, great round for long range full bodied deer. Mine likes 140gr bullets best, TSX is showing a lot of promise.

I find the 160 grain Partition perfect for what I do with my 7MM RM.

I've used 140 Trophy Bonded, 140 Partitions, 160 A Frames, 150 ballistic tips and 160 TSX's andhave had good luck with all. I own two rifles in this caliber and really like it on Canadian and southern whitetail.
