If it is a true Safari Grade then the action will be marked "A-IV". The A-IV was a special action with a drop magazine which held an extra round and also had a slightly different shape to the bolt handle and maybe one or two other modified features.
I'm unaware of any caliber other than belted magnums being chambered in the Safari Grade, but a 9.3x62 chambering would make sense. Sako often distributed different chamberings in Europe than in the U.S., so perhaps such a rifle might be from production intended for European sales.
I often see regular Sakos advertised as "Safari", but they are not. So, buyer beware.

It is indeed a factory Sako Safari grade with the Dropbox, Barrel band/front sling. I owned one several years ago in .300 Win Mag. I think you are correct on the AIV action. Definitely a 1980's era A series. (My favorites). Now I'm trying to recall if I saw an import marking on the barrel but I don't recall that so it may have been a bring back of some type. It had the factory caliber markings so it hadn't been customized.

I owned an AIV Sako safari grade in 9.3x62. My wife now owns it.
It has a drop magazine (holds six + one in the chamber), is marked AIV on the side, caliber marked 'SAKO cal. 9.3x62 made in Finland', has open sights with banded/hooded front sight, quarter rib, one standing/one folding leaf rear sight, rosewood foreend tip, cheekpiece, red recoil pad, and high gloss blue finish.
Yes, it IS 9.3x62 and it IS an AIV.
I am holding it in my hands right now.

Well, the dealer claims to have sold it to another for a much higher price than he quoted me, or so he says. So que sera. I shouldn't have waited, knew that.

Stonecreek and Surefire are right on. Never seen one in 9.3x62, but I've seen/owned the other chamberings. All are AIV actions. However, I did have a very rare NIB AV in 9.3x62.

Well i happened by that shop and lo and behold what did i find in the rack but the 'sold' Safari grade. Owner wasnt there. I asked a clerk what the price was,he looked it up and told me 200.00 cheaper than original quote, but he had to verify. He called the shop owner and came back 500.00 higher. I verified its an AIV and no import stamp, so likely a bring back.
Screw him, he's a lying douche bag.
