I just picked up a new Ruger African in 9.3x62. I have wanted to try this caliber for some time having shot friends rifles. Anyone else have this rifle? Plans are to install a Decelerator pad and bed the action. Trigger seems fine. Leopold 1.75-6 heavy duplex with Warne rings to complete the package.

Inasmuch as I have two Commercial Huskvarna mod 98 Mausers in 9.3x62, I had to have one in a Ruger African, but couldn't find one at the time so opted for a .338.. The Ruger African has had some real changes for the better, nice iron sights, Mod. 70 type safety, good triggers and most of all they cut away all that extra worthless wood that added nothing but bulk to the Ruger. The end result is the finest factory rifle yet or at least since the pre 64 mod. 70 Fwt. The 9.3x62 is as good as the .375 H&H when properly loaded with RL-15 and big heavy 300 and 320 gr. bullets at near or at 2400 FPS. The 286 Nosler at 2500 FPS and the 250 gr. at 2700 FPS that has a trajectory like a 180 gr. 30-06..Now how can you beat that! I have used the 9.3x62 on game as large as Eland and Cape buffalo and found it to be capable of the task. I haven't scoped mine yet. The factory pad is fine offhand, from the bench I just added a slip on pad. Irons seem to be dead on at 50m.

Sounds like a sweet rifle Rob. I've seen a 9.3x62 in action on Eland with excellent results. Great caliber, your set-up should be ideal.
