This is a followup to an earlier post this spring. I am looking to try some loads for a 280 remington for Mule deer to 300/350 yds. I already have 140TSX, 145GS, 140NP, 150NP, and IMR4350, 4064,3031, and H4831.

Any recipes for the above combos? Any other proven loads for this rifle/cartridge? Thanks

Try the H-4831 with 140gr Nosler Partitions. Should do really well. 3031 and 4064 are to fast for optimum performance in the 280.

I've used 56.0 grs IMR4831, std primer and a 150 NP in a pair of .280's and it's performed fine. I get 2950 fps in a 24" gun and right around 3000 fps (2990 avg) in a 26" Rem 700.

I tried H4831 but the IMR4831 seemed to yeild better accuracy and velocity in MY guns. I also agree that the other powders are a tad too fast.

140's or 150 NP's will work very well. I've used them at the ranges You listed on deer, elk and a few heads of small antelope in RSA. NEVER failed me.

i have used both imr 4350 & h4350 with 154 hornadys but usually go back to rl19.

Both of my 280s like 4831 short cut with 140 Accubonds.

IMR-4350 and 145gr bullets are what I have used for 30 years to take lots of game.

Has anyone noticed their .280s to have a preference for heavier bullets? I had my "new" 1960 vintage .280 at the range yesterday where is shot 3-4 inch groups with 140 grain R-P Core Lokts, then dropped to inch and a quarter with Speer Nitrex 145 grain and 160 grain Grand Slams. I've seen similar results with a pair of 7x57mm Mannlichers as well.

Frank is right as usual. My 280 thrives on slower powders. Best results w/ 140-160gr bullets have been w H4831sc & IMR7828. Franks' 56gr IMR4831 load is sub moa in my lt.wt. 23" bbl. & hits 2900fps+ w/ 140grNPs or 145grGS. For sbit mor evel., 59gr of IMR7828 gets close to 3000fps & is also sub moa.
