Which one would you recommend for a 300 win mag. The rifle will be used in open country and target animals are: Kudu, Zebra, B Wildebeest and occasional eland.

I would choose the 180 gr Barnes, especially if eland will be on the menu. I took 2 kudu, black wildebeest, mountain reedbuck, duiker, and blesbok with 180 gr TSX in 300 WM last year. All shots were complete pass thrus with the black wildebeest being taken at 271 yards and the second kudu at 225 yards, both one shot kills. I also took a bull elk at roughly 200 yards and a scimtar horned oryx (265 yards) and blackbuck (70 yards), which were also all pass thru shots. I'm shooting only 69.9 grs of IMR7828 and getting 2815 fps out this load. Not fast by any imagination, but they are accurate and penetrate deep, which to me is the most important criteria. Plus, from my results last year, I can't complain any. I hope to send one thru a black bear's boiler room in the coming weeks! Good luck! I've used the 180 grain TSX with great success in my 300 wm on anything from roe deer to red deer, also one shot kills and no hard damage on the meat at the same time With TTSX you got greater ballistics and better expansion, but still no fragmentation that does all the meat damage Thanks Bjarne

(T)TSX, I have great results with this bullet - both in terms accuracy as well as terminal ballistics. I have not used Sciroccos to any great extent, but when I did try them, I could not get them to shoot. A substitute for me would be the Nosler AccuBond - it is rare I can't get this bullet to shoot well. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Barnes TSX or TTSX. I have had great results with them on big black bear & deer up to big reds. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

B-J, I'm swimming upstream; as usual and my reco is shoot which ever bullet shoots best in your rifle; 'cause there's not a Hill-of-Beans difference in terminal perfomance between the two based on our field experience. Currently my Buddy; who I load for & myself are using a potouri of either the Swift Scirocco II's, TSX or TTXS in various cartridges; .270 Win. (130 gr. Swift Scirocco II), .30/06 Sprg. (165 gr. TSX). Same applies for the .300 Win Mag. (165 gr. Swift Scirocco II), 300 Weatherby (130, 165 & 180 gr. TTSX) or the 300 RUM (180 gr. TSX). To my astonishment my Pal said he wanted .308" 150 gr. Swift Scirocco II's loaded in his 300 Win. Mag. for last's year's Nambia trip. We never recovered one on many large animals, Blue Wildebeast (many - we did some Culling, too), Oryx (4), Mountain Zebra (2), Eland (1). They worked very well. I think your 180 gr. weight choice is a good one, too. Have fun with your choice. Cheers, Number 10

Here's a little info in case you reload. I pulled the bullet out of the Barnes Vortex 180 TTSX factory load and it had 70.6 grains of IMR 4831 inside. Barnes website lists this as their most accurate load on their website. It is one of the few factory loads my Weatherby Accumark shoots under 1 MOA. I load mine with 71 grains IMR 4831 and get .6" groups at 3010 fps. That calculates to 3621 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle. Hope someone benefits from this info and I hope you have a great safari!

The 180 TTSX, SWifts or the Accubonds gets my vote for the 300WM. Me personally use the 180gr Accubonds....never been to Africa but here in Alberta I have taken elk, moose, whitetails, mulies, bears at various distances in different weather conditions.....no issues. I use 74.0gr of RL22 and 215 Federal primers. Under 0.5" groups @ 100m sighted in at 3.5" high @ 100m I had some TSX's before but I was very happy withthe performance at the range and on big game with the Accubonds, so I stuck with them.
