I took a friend hunting with me a couple times this season and he managed to take two smallish 120 lb whitetails with a Ruger 77 7RM while pushing Sierra 150 grn BTSPs @ 3060 fps.

The first was a double shoulder pass-thru at 120 yards. Nice 1.5" exit and quite destructive to the vitals. The second was a 200 yard quartering-to shot that went through: shoulder, ribs, vitals, ribs, and came to rest against the hide (DRT). The heart came out in three different pieces. Here's a few pics of the bullet:

Recovered weight was 80.5 grns for 53.7% retention.

Doesn't really prove anything, just plain cup-n-cores at work on small animals....

Ya'll have a good one,

Of course if your friend had been using some of the "premium" bullets that some people insist are essential for deer hunting, he could have had a "good blood trail" and enjoyed the additional sport of tracking his deer for a couple of hundred yards. Instead, his deer disappointingly fell in its tracks and denied him the highly sought-after joy of tracking it after the shot.

Reloader: thanks for the pic. I have a light load for my 7Mag using that bullet. Velocity is about 2700 fps. Recoil is very light and performance on deer/hogs has been very dependable. Never gotten to see a bullet, though!

LOL Stonecreek. Yep, I guess we should all put a super duper premium in every once in a while when hunting ferocious whitetails. After all, one needs to practice his tracking skills.

Olarmy, sounds like a good low velocity load similar to the 7-08. I would imagine these bullets would work well at that velocity. I've only witnessed a handfull of Sierra GK medium game kills, they seem to be quite expansive yet maintain just enough integrity to get the job done. I'd place them on the same level as that of a Core-Loct, Power-Point, Hot Core, Interlock, etc......

I've always' had great luck with the Sierra gameking and pro-hunter bullets. Nothing fancy, they just work and shoot good out of most of my rifles.
