The regular BT will "expand rapidly!" and usually come apart into two or three pieces depending on how much bone it hits. Many/most of the time the bullet will not exit. The SilverTip is just a coated BT.

Funny, I've killed quite a few animals w/ the NBTs from 100#-500# and I've only had them remain in the animal on 3 occasions, two were big bodied WT bucks quartering towards me (and let me say they were only 140 grners @ 3210 fps but, still went through bones and vitals before the perfect mushroom stopped under the far side hide) and the other was on a 500# Russian (Through the shield & shoulder and still made it to the far hide). I can't recall any 3 piece recoveries either .

I guess all of the other game animals I've taken w/ the NBTs and got full penetration w/ 1/2 dollar sized exits were all just flukes .

You can't base assumptions on a small sample of stories you've heard about a bullet.

Good Luck!

CD-

Nosler gives it to us in 5 different flavors

The BallisticTip bullet with it's plastic tip removed is just one honkin' hollow point.

In the BallisticTip varmint version they have the thinnest wall and will literally explode on impact. say- SPLAT !!

The regular BT will "expand rapidly!" and usually come apart into two or three pieces depending on how much bone it hits. Many/most of the time the bullet will not exit. The SilverTip is just a coated BT.

The new AccuBond is a thick walled- bonded core version of the BT that is supposed to mushroom but keep the base from disintegrating. I really like them for everything in Texas and they're usually .10 a piece cheaper than Partitions.

I have found that the BallisticTip, SilverTip & Accubond (all plastic tipped- boat tailed- hollow points) are every bit as accurate as Sierra MatchKings.

The Partition- what can I say- what all other hunting bullets are compared too- non-expanding base section with a great mushrooming nose.

The FailSafe- For when it's one big TOUGH mother puppy and the object is to poke a hole through it! They don't expand much unless you shoot them out of a Magnum. Although they used to come in two different versions- one for 2700fps and one for 3000fps.

I've seen similar test done on bullets but, none compare to bullets used on game, If they did, You would get to see some of the Failsafes and X bullets not open at all and you would see some perfect mushrooms on the softer bullets such as the Sierras and the NBTs. Most NA big game are very easy to penetrate and do not require very tough bullets.

A 22 WMR will completely penetrate an average size deer or hog on broad side shots (I've dropped hogs w/ a 22 WMR) so, a 180 grain NBT or Sierra GK will sure as heck blow through them.

Good Luck!
