Yes, you got that right. I've turned some real kickers into some pleasant shooters w/ the Sims. It will make a dreaded painful shoot a nice pleasant shoot w/ much tighter groups. If you'll shop around on Cheaperthandirt.com and Outdoorsuperstore.com you can often find some great deals on the Sims Pads.
Good Luck!

I mentioned to my wife and kids that I might be interested in an Elk or Muley hunt next year and was considering getting a .300 Win Mag for my T/C Encore. Well Christmas came early this year and I have a new barrel for my T/C! Now I would like to use it this deer season which starts here next month. I would like to shoot only one ammo through it and am considering Winchester Supreme 180 gr. Ballistic Silvertips which would be a good round for elk or muleys. My question is "Do you think that is too much bullet for deer between 120-150 lbs.?" Most shots would be under 60 yrds in the woods, but can get 300 yrds in the open marsh.
If you shot it yet, what do you think about the .300 Win Mag barrel for the Encore? How's the recoil? Is it accurate? These questions can go for anyone.

What I meant to say is that am trying many different ammos and may even reload for it. I am going to try the winchester supreme and other factory ammo first. But the Winchester is basically a elk round and was just wondering if it shoots well, is it to much for the deer in my area. I am concerned about bullet expansion. But I am looking for one cartridge for most game.
IMHO I think tinkering with different loads AFTER finding a precise load with a bullet you can use for eveything is a waste of time.
This year I have only loaded NorthFork bullets in all guns. They shot exceptionally well in about 10 rifles I have tried them in and performance on game is even better.
I know you do not need premium bullets for deer but how nice is it to have one load you can use for eveything? Whatever hunt you're leaving for you always have a properly zeroed gun you can just pick up and go hunting.
In 300 Win I have used 77grs of Norma MRP behind a 180grs Northfork soft in a semi custom Rem 700 with a Shilen SM barrel and an HS stock.Gives 3030f/s at the muzzle. The gun shoots in the .4"'s with this load.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but it seems backwards to me. The concern I would have would be with an "elk" bullet being stoutly constructed and not having enough expansion on deer. If a bullet has too much expansion on deer it's definately not what you want for elk.

Thanks for all the info! Just got back from the range and got 1" groups from Winchester Supreme 180 gr.Ballistic Tips. I will try a few other brands with the partition and go with gives me the most confidence. I love this Encore! I have a .223 barrel that shoots 1/4" groups at 100 yrds. and .300 Win Mag getting 1" groups at 100 yrds so far. But dam that .300 kicks like a mule!! I'm still 1" high, 1/2" to the right, but had to give my shoulder a break and put a bandaid on my scope-cut nose!!! That was the first time a scope ever got me and was glad I was alone, no one to see me laughing at myself. But again, thanks for all imput from you guys!
