270WSM with a fluted #4 barrel 24 inches. Going with a Lone Wolf stock modeled after the model 70 and no floor plate to help reduce weight. Already have the Zeiss 3.5-10 scope bought and trying to decide on the mounts. (Leupold QR, Talley, or Burris DD) Action and barrel in stainless due to hunting on salt water marshes going after Sika deer.

Stainless acttion and barrel in .358 Win, for a foul-weather and brush/timber rifle. I'll probably put a Bushnell Elite 3200 with Rainguard on it. I haven't decided on a stock yet.

My short action is a chrome right handed, standard bolt face. I'm turning Bill Leeper loose with a Pac-Nor fwt barrel and a spring steel extractor. It'll have as nice a piece of English as I can afford. The final product will be a classic 7X57 with a 22 1/2" barrel, .550" at the muzzle, throated to take advantage of the 3.1" mag length. If you've seen pic's of John Wootter's custom 280 built by Joe Balicke, think that. Final weight around 7 1/4# with a Leupie 2.5-8 w/ 4a reticle on board in Conetrols. The butt cored out to bring the balance point forward as close to the front guard screw as we can get. A SWEET little, nice weather deer thumper. The only compromise thus far is that serial number 0284 was already spoken for in the initial run of short actions. But 0275 was still available, so it will be a 275 Rigby instead of a 7X57.

OK- With a handle like 30 Caliber Mag Fan the first part of this post will be somewhat predictable. Caliber .300 WSM, Ok, I'm predictable.javascript:void(0) Barrel, 24 inch Lothar Walther, their #1400 contour, correlates to a #4 according to everyone else's book. Haven't decided on scope yet. Either Leupold, Zeiss or Swarovski. Getting close now!! Action and barrel, stainless. Going with a slim McMillen stock.

One of the SS SA's I have on order will be a 270 WSM with a 24" Shillen barrel. I will fuss with the action some and then take it to my smith for the barrel. The stock will be of laminated Circassian walnut from a blank that I supplied to Acrabond. This stock, not even counting the value of the blank, will be by far the most expensive component. It has fancy checkering, finish etc. Scopes come and go with me but it may start out with a 3-9 Conquest that is on another rifle just now. The metal will be bead blasted. I don't know what the total weight will be but somewhere around 8.5 lbs is a good guess. It's not certain who will bed the stock. But it must be done before the stock is finished.

I'm going to build a 338WSM with Shilen barrel for my own use based on the same 1.810 case I've been using. Wally

I anticipate receiving my stainless short action from Montana Rifleman in two weeks. I will have PAC-NOR put it up with a stainless 22 barrel in a .350 Rem. Mag. with a lightweight contour (#1 sporter) barrel, which should give me around .600 OD at the muzzle. For back up proposes, I am going to have New England iron sights installed. This package will be bead blasted and then set in a McMillan featherweight stock. I plan on topping it with a 2.5 x 8 matte Vari-lll using Burris Signature rings. I think this outfit will work in the fir jungles of North Idaho. CP.
