Guys,

This rifle puzzles me a little. It is the Classic model with a 24" barrel measured from the forward edge of the gas vent hole to the tip of the muzzle and has a hard rubber butt pad. It seems I've seen these in 22" barrel configuration with a 1" factory pad. Were there two models of the 350 Remington Classic in 350 RM? I'm not much of a rifle historian so perhaps I can get some help on this. I did a little research yesterday but I found nothing addressing barrel length and recoil pads.

BTW I bought this off Gun brokers and am extremely satisfied with the transaction and the gun is virtually "As New" with an equally good condition 1.5x5 Leupold scope included.

The traditional Classic models had 24 inch barrels but there were 350 rem mag Classics with 22 inch barrels.

Remington has often produced 1 offs when they had excess barreled actions.

I once owned a factory 700 ADL in 6.5x55 swede. Never shown in a catalog anywehere. They produced them bcuz the had left over bbl'd actions from the run of 6.5x55 classics.

Mike,

That's all interesting. I went back this morning and looked at Gun brokers that still has several Classic 350's for sale. All had what appears to be 22" barrels and 1" pads.

My 700 Classic in .350 Rem. measures 22 inches from the vent hole to the muzzle. It has a solid brown rubber pad that is about 1 inch thick and is marked "Remington". I am the original owner of this rifle and know the barrel and recoil pad have not been modified or changed.

Dale,

Thanks. Nothing else.

Mark,

I definitely think there were two configurations produced as all the other Classics have 24" bbls and no sights.

Mike,

I bought one of the original 35 Whelen Classics when it came out. It had a 22 inch barrel and sites. The 24" on my 350 had irons but they've been removed. This is interesting.

Indeed it is.

Obviously, I have not seen the entire universe of 700 Classics but all the ones I have seen were 24 inches and without sights in the various calibers.

Learn something new everyday.

The pre-classic 700 "Classic's" manufactured from 1978 to 1985 are the least produced & those calibers were never offered again.
(22-250,243,6mmRem,270,30-06,7RemMag)
The least produced 350 Rem Mags were the 700 BDL's.
The 350 RM Classic dates1985 product #5756

Bbl code will verify year of manufacture as Remington hasn't a clue.

I have 2ea of the pre-classic's & complete set of the Classic line of 700's all w/ exception of a pre 243 Win that's fired & hunted all others were cleaned/lubed/stored w/ appropriate OEM boxes.

Receiver serial number pre-fix letter is probably a"B"or possibly a "C".

Bbl code month of manufacture code-
B-L_A_C_K_P_O_W_D_E_R_X
Bbl code year of manufacture will be an "F"

Any other letter(s) or number(s) stamping around Bbl code stamping is a promotional code
stamping.

In Remington headstamped 350RM brass-
Sierra 225gr SBT
Dupont IMR 4895 58-61gr
seated mag length minus .020"
produces cloverleaf groups in the 8-10 350 RM that I own.

If you are a die hard Nosler fan run the Nosler Partitions backwards
They shoot just as well backwards.
And will stay together as well.

Dan,

This rifle has no prefix. It has ser # only. Everybody tells me there is no such animal as a 24 inch barrel 350 RM with Classic type stock and no recoil pad but I have one.

BTW a load of TAC will drive a 200 TSX at 2900 fps chronographed in my rifle and clover leaf the shots. That's some big game medicine.

Mark,
The info Dan posted is for the barrel date not a serial number prefix. If you look on the left side of the barrel just above the woodline there will be a small set of stampings. This may help you.

Classic stock was excellent as quoted by Jim Carmichael. I have also shot straight stocks and the recoil goes into the shoulder, not up and into the face. coffee

How is the 350 rem mag stamped on the barrel?
Might be a custom shop gun if it has the custom shop type calibre stamp which is usually smaller and stamped on the barrel shank, rather than halfway down the barrel.

Checked that out just now. Caliber stamp looks the same as the other factory 700 rifles I have.

Thanks anyway!

Im no expert but my guess is that the gun in a CDL with a remington classic stock. I have a 35 whelen classic with sights and a 22 in barrel, and I often thought about out the CDL model with the 24 inch barrel with sights

The .350 RM needs to be chambered in a short, quick handling 'carbine'-length gun, ... similar to the old Remy series of 600/660/600 Mohawk.

My 350 is a classic, 22" bl with sights, light, handy and plenty of power. 250 grn bullets with the nose filed off to seat out a bit, a book load of IMR 4895 @ 2610 fps.
Rem has a long throat on the .350's for some reason.
