I've always felt that the standard .277 bullets were a bit soft at .270 Win. speeds. Must be pretty tough to get a 130 cup and core to hold together with the short mag. I like 3,000fps and under for edible critters, but all I can get for varmints.

My 270 WSM is the model 70 coyote. While I like it to me it is more of a varmint rifle/ shoot off sandbags type rifle. To me personally it feels like a club as far as carrying it around goes. Any suggestions on what would be good to trade it to, soemthing in the same power range? "Science only goes so far then God takes over."

G'day All, Having owned both, and carefully reloaded and chrony'ed both out of similar (Ruger m77mk11) rifles, I really cannot see any difference in the field, either in rifle performance, or reaction when game is hit. The WSM is 100-150fps faster, the 270 win holds an extra round. Apart from culling, I hardly use a full mag anyway. There have been some feeding problems with the WSM, but a quick polish on the ramp sorted that out. I really can't see what the fuss is about, I'm happy with the 70yo round, with it's ease of feeding and ready availability in remote areas. However, half the fun with shooting is playing around with new stuff! If the new 270 round appeals to you, why not give it a run? Just be aware, it won't offer a significant advantage over the classic. To do that you need a bigger bullet, at the same, or faster speed. Just my $.02 worth. Cheers, Dave. They both do the same job equally in the field regardless of what they claim on paper.... I think I'd just stay with the std. .270 WCF, it has always worked for me... I can see no "practical" advantage to any of the new WSMs... Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! If you really need to save some weight and length in the gun there are better options than a WSM...260 Rem...7mm/08...6.5/284...etc. Then your shorter lighter rifle won't beat the snot out of you too. Brain Fart? But they don't have a BELT! Isn't that worth giving up magazine capacity and smooth feeding? After all it doesn't have a BELT! Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

-150-200fps more velocity, slightly better -Better shoulder angle so cases stretch less, Slightly better - Shorter action weighs less, slightly better - Shorter actions are stiffer, slightly better - Burns powder more efficiently, slightly better All the improvements of the 270 WSM over the 270 Win are but slight improvements. The point that people seem to miss is slightly better is still better!.............DJ . . . . . . On the other hand the 270 Win feeds slightly better and magazine capacity is slightly better, hmmmmmmmm.......... ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

Shot the 270 WSM again today all bullet holes touching and a lot of dead jugs. 130bt imr4350 cant remember the grains have to look and see. Exactly as is from factory except all I did was lighten the trigger a little bit. "Science only goes so far then God takes over."
