I have not shot one, however, I did give them a look ( I actually held one and looked it over) when I was getting ready to build a 300H&H. I decided to use the M1999 instead. It looked and felt better to me. My gunsmith also agreed with my choice. Just my 2 cents. Dennis Shooting, what else is there?

I bought (2) left hand Zastava (Charles Daly) actions. For the price, $250 ea. they are hard to beat. I was not expecting much after reading posts on AR regarding Zasatava but after getting mine, I was quite impressed. The actions are MUCH nicer than I expected. The first one is being turned into a 35 Whelen by GAry Stiles. The quality of the Zastava is better than that of the recent LH Winchester M70 I bought. I have seen the Montana actions, & like them a good bit, but they cost more than teh daly. But if you take into account that I have mine with GAry Stiles right now & he is changing the bolt handle, magazine latch & cleaning up the action, the Montana would be a bit cheaper. Gentry installed his 3=position safety. I just had to have a Mauser...........and shooting left handed left me few other choices. The second one will eventually be turned into a light weight hunting rifle based upon the Mauser Type B. I have yet to determine caliber, but it will most likely be a 6.6x55 or a 280. Here is one that GAry Stiles is building for another client right now. It is still in the white & being worked on. Teh 1'2 octagon, 1/2 round barrel was milled by GAry from a varmint blank. It looks awesome. It feels light & trim. A SWEET little mountain mauser Below is a Montana action in the white being made by GAry. My 35 Whelen will have the same checkering pattern

I built this 7X57 for my wife. It is a factory Daly Barreled action. With her shooting it groups about .75MOA. Buy the barreled action the dealer cost is only about $12 more than the action. I have a several other Daly and MKX barreled actions. By far the best $12 barrels I have ever owned. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I'd wait a little bit and get one with the Remington name on it instead of the Charles Daly name. IMO the name Remington can stay on it but the name of Charles Daly isn't exactly synonomous with quality. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." It looks like wanting a CD action is a moot point as the sources have all dried up. No one has any in stock. Guess I will have to look for another brand....so if anyone knows of a mauser action that will work for a 7X57 at a reasonable price I would apprecate letting me know Never rode a bull, but have shot some. I have heard they will cost in the range of about $450 when finally available from Remington. However, you will have to buy a laminated stock with it. No barreled actions or actions will be sold by Remington. There will not be any more available from Charles Daly. NoCAL

Nocal Guess thats the way of it,I went on the CD web site and they said they are not importing them any longer, Remington is taking them. I have nothing against Remington but I wanted an action only guess I keep hunting (no pun intended) Guess I am going to have to speed up the turnip wagon so I quit missing these deals. Hey Iron Buck, Tell us a little about the safety on the CD barreled action. Who makes a left hand 3 position mauser safety? Thanks, Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

As far as I know Gentry is your only option. - stu

That is correct. It is a GEntry safety. I had Gentry install it. It works great. There had been some criticism of the Gentry safety here on AR, I guess it is supposed to be difficult to put in I had Gentry install it. I also asked Gary Stiles about the Gentry safety. HE said he put several in with no problems. Functionally it is fine. So if your smith does not like them, I'd suggest letting Gentry do it. I will be sending GEntry my current action to install the same LH 3-position safety. I like the 3 position much better than the stock 2 position that the Zastava comes with.

I didn't know they made a left hand model. That's great news for southpaws. I've got a Gentry on a M98 (David did mine too) Works good. I've also got a Dalota, I like it a little better but they're both good products. Thanks, Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I'm still trying to find a couple of the LH actions. Anyone have any leads on where to get a couple of the 30-06 size left hand actions? E-gunparts seems sold out. - stu

Please let us know what you find out. I will probably be looking for a few LH safetys myself. Fergus PS, I know there are still LH Zastava actions available in Aussie.

I tried e-mailing Zastava regarding availability of LH actions.......POst Remington. I have not received a reply. It has been about week now. So I guess they won't respomd for what ever reason. I wonder if these actions would be available from someone else other that Remington? Or did Rem corner the world wide market? Remington has been good to left hand shooters. I find it hard to believe that they will not offer Left hand 798s at some point in the future. As long as Zastava still has them coming off the production line.

i just checked at jerryssportcenter.com, a dealer wholesaler. they still have left handed charles daly mauser rifles in stock at several of their wearhouses. they do not have any lh actions or barreled actions. they also list the new imported mausers on the remington page. more expensive than the daly's. a no mention of anything in left handed or having the just actions available.

I've been looking at post-Charles Daly availability of the left-handed actions, too. Doesn't look good so far. I sent in the question on lefty rifles and separate actions avaiability to the remington web site, and I got 'wait 'til the SHOT show is over and we'll have answers on the website mid Feb' as an answer.
