Very true.Some brakes are not as loud as others but to reduce recoil they redirect gases rearward or sideways which does increase the noise.

mhoKongy, get yourself a PAST recoil pad. That has nothing to do with being a "Sissy". IMHO, it has to with being smart. Nobody shoots a rifle that hurts as well as one that does not hurt. One can train to accept more recoil, but choice #1 is still to stop the hurt, that way you'll be willing to train more and become a better shot. Get a PAST, they are only about $20 plus shipping to the UK - maybe $30 all together??
I use a PAST to shoot all centerfires above .22 cal from the bench. Even in summer when shooting in a T-shirt, I'm never sore from a range session.
