Guys,

Any in the field experience with this one? My rifle really likes it and I would think as long as you were not taking too many raking shots it would be a good open country load for antelope/deer size game.

They work just fine on deer size animals Mark, I have not used them on larger animals and if elk were on the menu, Id opt for Noslers partitions or Accubonds, but the Hornadys would probably work fine for broadside shots on elk as well???..

Wby ammo was and still may be Hornady bullets..

Mark,
When I could still get them my favourite projectile was the Hornady Interbond 150 gn. Unlike you I was using them in a 30.06 but hunted numerous Red Deer and Tahr in our hills here. They were always accurate ( Blaser R93 ) and good game killers. My longest shots were 385 yard on Tahr and 375 yards on Red Stag. In these cases I needed two shots on each to get it done but other animals were one shot only. I would think whatever equivalent projectile Hornady has now would be just fine.

Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Mark I've used the 150 gr Hornady Spire pts in my 270 Wby. At close range they come apart. If the range is 150 yds or more they work real good.Don't load them anymore as I now use TTSX bullets. If they shoot good in your rifle ,no reason not to shoot them.

I've used the 150gr Hornady spire point Interlocks in my 270Wby on deer here in NC. They were deadly on deer at any range out to about 400yds which is about as far as I could have a shot on the farm. I have a client that used that same bullet in his 270 wby for elk with great results out to 350-400yds. I would have used a larger caliber on elk but he has confidence in it and has shot several really nice bulls with it at long ranges.

Guys,

Thanks for the comments from your experience. The damn rifle has been ultra fussy about what it will shoot and the Hornady seems to be the ticket at this time.

Thanks again!

Mark

Mark, if you shoot them inside 50-100 yards, I hope you like hamburger :-)

I'm with Biebs... even in a standard 270 Win, at anything under 150-200 yards it comes apart.

Finn Aagard shot some elk with them and tested them on elk bones and hide, found them to stay together, He was fond of HOrnady Interlocks, thourgth Id pass that on...

Ive busted the shoulder on deer and found them expanded perfectly in the hip, and lots of locals use them on elk..Ive never had one come apart on a deer in my 270 or 30-06 but I wouldn't be surprised if them blew up on elk at that additional velocity, but I use mostly Nosler partitions and Accubonds and Woodleighs I also like the GS Customs bullets on elk size creatures.

Hi Mark, as you know there are better bullets for elk sized game. The velocity of the 270 Weatherby is a pretty stiff test. Nosler is selling 150g Partition ammo, pricey, but I'd bet it's pretty good if you're not handloading.

Regards,

Chuck
